Why water and air come from the well and how to fix this problem

An autonomous water supply system from a well in a country house or in a summer cottage allows solving many problems. Firstly, to make the stay in nature comfortable, and secondly, to grow a rich harvest, since regular irrigation will no longer be a problem. Having many advantages, a pumping station requires not only proper installation, equipment with a filtration system, but also regular flushing, and preventive procedures. A common phenomenon: the supply of water from a source along with air.

Causes of air in the water well

If the head becomes too low, the air in the system

As a rule, households who use small amounts of water from a source or with seasonal use of pumping equipment are faced with the problem of air entering the water. The causes of this phenomenon may be the following system problems:

  • The air mass suction at the place of water intake failed. The problem will not be resolved until the pipeline with all the necessary parts is completely replaced. It is easy to make sure that it works properly - just pump water in the pipeline, for example, in the bathroom.
  • Damage to the pumping equipment itself due to irregular or poor-quality maintenance. Air bubbles form as a result of fragile packing. The solution to the problem is to disassemble the working node of the station and eliminate the breakdown.
  • Insufficient level of well filling with large pumping. Drilling a new well, acquiring a less powerful pump, reducing the amount of water used can solve the problem. However, when drilling a new well, it is important not to reach the same aquifer, where the probability of airing the system again is very high.

If the water from the well goes jerky and with air, detailed technical diagnostics are required to establish the exact cause. The principle of operation of hydraulic and electrical systems is the same. If at home it is not possible to perform an operation, it is better to return the pumping equipment to a service center.

Cavitation and its elimination

As practice shows, cavitation is the most common problem that owners of personal plots face with an autonomous water supply system.

The reason for the appearance of cavitation is incorrectly selected pumping equipment. Water devices are selected based on the diameter of the well. For sizes less than 100 mm, plunger or circular models are suitable, 100 mm and more are submersible.

Cavitation is a violation of the density of the water column, in other words, filling the pipeline with air bubbles. Formed in areas with reduced pressure at a critical level. The phenomenon is accompanied by the formation of voids in the pipeline, bubble formations formed as a result of the interaction of gases and vapors generated by well water.

It is not always possible to calculate the faulty section on your own, because special equipment is required. It is also worth adding that this site may be unstable. If measures are not taken, the consequences will hit "affordably" - dynamic effects on flow and vibration will lead to breakdown of pumping equipment.

To reduce the likelihood of a problem developing, it is necessary to choose the right water pumps taking into account the consumed volumes of water and the technical characteristics of the well.

To get rid of such an unpleasant phenomenon as the appearance of air in water, you need to consider the main ways to solve the problem:

  • Replace the small diameter pipe with a large diameter pipe.
  • Install pumping equipment closer to the storage tank. When transporting the pump, it is important to take into account the established standards: the interval between the tank and the pump should be no less than 5 diameters of the suction pipe.
  • Replace the gate valve with the gate type and remove the check valve. To reduce the pressure in the pipeline, the pipe is replaced with a smooth one.
  • There should not be too many turns in the suction pipe. To solve the problem, you need to replace the small radius bends with large ones or simply reduce them. At the stage of designing an autonomous water supply system, it is recommended to place all branches in one plane and use flexible pipes, rather than rigid ones.

The problem of air bubbles entering well water is common. For many, the problem may seem uncritical, but its continued failure will inevitably lead to the failure of the pumping station. If you cannot correct the situation yourself, you need to contact the specialists.
