Battery room ventilation, workshop

Battery ventilation should be equipped according to a special scheme. Continuous electrolysis proceeds with the release of harmful gases: hydrogen sulfide, lead, acids. Therefore, the ventilation of battery rooms is mounted separately from the general ventilation channels of the building.

Features of ventilation of battery shops

  • Battery room
    Battery room

    The main task of the exhaust part of the ventilation of battery rooms is to remove all harmful substances. They form in the lower third of the room, so about 70% of the exhaust power should be concentrated at the bottom and only 30% at the top. The maximum permissible concentration of sulfuric acid is 0.001 grams per cubic meter of air. This concentration is allowed 150 cm from the floor, but not higher;

  • According to the requirements for the safe maintenance of alkaline batteries, ventilation in the battery shop should provide double air exchange, as well as a hydrogen concentration of not higher than 0.7%;
  • Since the systems are constantly exposed to aggressive substances, they are equipped exclusively from refractory and explosion-proof ducts, fans, pipes;
  • Fan switches are mounted outside the battery room. Entrances to the room are equipped with vestibules and hermetically closed.

Rules for installing ventilation in battery rooms

In battery rooms only forced-air ventilation is equipped with mechanical traction. In addition to it, a natural hood is installed, which completely changes the air in the room in an hour. For a vestibule air support is organized.

Separate systems are mounted for alkaline and acid batteries.

The power of the charging rectifier is connected to the power of the fan and when the latter is turned off, the first stops the operation.

If the batteries are leakproof, it will be enough to equip only the natural ventilation system of the battery room, which changes the air in the room twice a hour.

It is strictly forbidden to discharge chimneys from battery rooms of any type into a common exhaust system.

The air outlet is carried out through a special channel rising above the roof by one and a half meters or higher. The exit is covered with an umbrella to prevent the ingress of rain or snow.

The temperature in the battery room should be up to 25 degrees. The temperature regime is ensured by the effective operation of ventilation in the battery shop.
