How the motion sensor works in the DVR

CCTV systems that respond to moving objects are more economical and efficient. Motion registration is provided in many ways. A video recorder with a motion sensor may be a construction of a video camera, a sensor and a recorder, or device software.

Varieties of DVR systems with motion sensor

The motion sensor in the recorder is used when the car is parked

A DVR is a device designed to process a signal from a camera and form an image. The user has to deal with two of its main variations: the modification used to organize the video surveillance system in the apartment, and the device that is installed in cars. The first option is quite large, it is equipped with a hard drive and replaces a PC in a video surveillance system. The automotive version is very compact, equipped with its own camera, but has a much smaller amount of memory.

There are several varieties of the device.

Digital

DVR - a digital video recorder compresses the video signal received from an analog camera into a digital one. The signal is transmitted via coaxial cable. In this form, data is written to the hard drive or transferred to the network. Most models are equipped with an Ethernet interface for connecting to a network.

The network option can be connected to the Internet, to store the recorded video on the DVR itself or in the cloud. Online monitoring and recording playback are available.

Network

NVR - network or IP-recorder is designed to work with appropriate cameras. The latter independently compress the signal and transmit to the recorder via the Internet or local area network. Usually they support the motion sensor function. In this case, this is the software.

The device receives settings during production. You cannot change them. The user needs to determine all the required parameters and select a registrar in accordance with them.

DVRs are classified by the number of cameras that can be connected to it - from 4 to several hundred; and by the number of monitors - from 4 to 10. This takes into account the resolution and amount of data from each camera. A device capable of working with 30 cameras of 2 megapixels will not be able to service 30 devices with higher rates.

Mixed

Such devices are able to work with IP-cameras and analog. In fact, any DVR device with an Ethernet interface can record both analog and digital signals, if it belongs to the middle or high class. Hybrid options are just a way to highlight more expensive models with an additional port.

For vehicle

The motion sensor of the DVR is intended only to protect the machine. It is useless when adjusting the shooting mode while riding. There is another feature: the camera lens looks in front of itself, which allows you to detect a moving object before the sensor picks up the movement. If you try to activate the sensor while driving, you get a torn record, consisting of separate pieces.

Activate the motion sensor when leaving the car in the parking lot. In this case, you need to turn the camera lens inward so that the sensor responds to movement in the cabin. Thus, you can fix the hacking car.

With night vision

The ability to shoot nightly depends on the design of the outdoor camera. There are 2 options: IR illumination can be built directly into the camera or provided by the IR illuminator. The image is flat, black and white, but quite clear.

The car DVR can also be equipped with IR LED. However, this option benefits when they monitor the car interior at night. Through the glass, the IR signal passes poorly, so that the registrar will be able to fix the appearance of any object only in the immediate vicinity.

Self powered

In the house, a mains powered device is more often used. This is more profitable, since the security recorder consumes a lot of energy. In cars, self-powered models are more convenient, since the car often needs protection just during stops.

When buying, you need to evaluate the capabilities of the battery. There are models in which it is designed for a very short life, only to save recording files when the power is turned off. Autonomous video recorders are equipped with powerful batteries.

Specifications

Home IP DVR ISON-NVR08P

Custom instrument qualities are product selection options.

  • Capacity - recording from a camera with good resolution can “drag out” 1 GB, so good models are equipped with hard drives up to 7 TB.
  • Resolution - determines the clarity of the recording. The minimum resolution is 704 * 576 pixels.
  • Speed - indicates the speed with which the data is processed for a specified number of channels. Efficiency depends on the number of channels: at a total speed of 100 frames per second, 8 cameras will transmit a signal at a speed of no higher than 12 frames.
  • Data Rate — Recording time or bandwidth. The faster the DVR with motion sensor, Ethernet interface and night vision, the better.
  • Audio signal - models record sound from at least one camera. Transferring audio files over the network is only possible with some recorders.
  • Management - through the mouse, remote control or control panel on the device.

The car DVR is also evaluated by the characteristics of the motion sensor. It is necessary to take into account the radius of its perception, the possibility of wireless operation, the type of motion sensor. The control function through the mobile application can also be useful.

Classification of motion sensors

Photofixation is used to register traffic violations

Separate the device according to the method of fixing what is happening: photo and video.

Photo fixing

The photo recorder performs only a security function. The device takes pictures, sometimes with a very short amount of time. Frames weigh a little. The photo device allows you to get an image of what is happening in front of the car.

Motorists rarely use them, since they are less useful in road accidents. The traffic police surveillance cameras often function precisely in the photo mode: this is how the images of offenders are obtained.

Video capture

The video allows you to get a complete picture of what is happening during parking and when driving. A large memory card is required for recording. The device is often equipped with autonomous power, since the DVR should work all night, and video shooting requires more energy than photographing.

Principle of operation

The action algorithm of most models is the same. Manually you can adjust some points.

  • When the machine is stopped, the DVR enters parking mode. Some models need to be translated manually. This is sleep mode: recording stops, but the motion sensor remains active. If movement is detected near the machine, the recorder is activated by a sensor signal.
  • Parking mode exits automatically after starting the engine or manually. In this case, recording is continuous. At the time of driving, it is better to turn off the motion sensor, since it will try to regulate the camera.

Parking mode, if the car is left in the garage, can be turned off by pressing the ON / OF button. If the unit is equipped with a battery, recording is automatically turned off when the charge level drops.

Registrar Record

What exactly appears on the video depends on the model of the recorder. The budget registrar records only the moment of the event. More expensive versions supplement the event with previous frames, if they are in memory.

The record is created using 3 parts:

  • Buffering - overwriting. These are 3-5 with a static record, which are needed to compare the previous situation with current events. These frames automatically supplement the recording.
  • Motion - recording is continuous while the sensor is active.
  • 2 buffering - after a while. When the movement ends and the sensor turns off, recording stops. However, the device takes a new static picture and adds these frames to the end of the recording.

The generated record looks coherent, but does not include extra pictures.

Configuring a DVR with a motion sensor

Configure the registrar post installation

Settings are performed after installation. Most auto-recorders are automatically activated after power on. To do the setting, the recording is turned off and go to the menu:

  1. Set the language, date and time in the corresponding column.
  2. In the "Resolution" section, select an indicator - the optimal resolution is 1920 * 1080.
  3. Indicate the duration of the video - usually 5 minutes.
  4. Activate or deactivate cycling. If dubbing is enabled, after the memory card is full, the very first clip is erased and the last clip is written in its place.

If necessary, additional parameters are indicated: the start of recording when the sensor is turned on, the monitor automatically turns off, and audio is recorded.
