Air conditioning drainage: pumps, systems, pipes, pumps and how to clean them

A drainage pump or drainage pump is one of the most important drainage units of an air conditioner. The design of the pump depends on the type of indoor unit, its location in the room, the configuration of the ceiling and walls, an acceptable condensate drainage system.

In cassette models, the pump is usually built into the manufacturer, but sometimes it is necessary to supplement it with another drain pump for the air conditioner. This happens if there is a large difference in elevation or a large distance between the water discharge point and the air conditioner.

There are tricks in choosing a drainage pump for an air conditioner of floor-ceiling or wall type. The pump should be small enough to draw water from the pump below the level well, deliver it to the discharge pipes, and work quietly.

Drainage pumps for air conditioners can be:

  • Recessed;
  • Separate;
  • In bulk;
  • Peristaltic.

Drainage tubes for air conditioners

The drainage of air conditioners consists of drainage pipes. All tubes are mounted hermetically, if the sealant is broken, the humidity in the room will increase, and with it the load on the compressor.

Air conditioning drainage: pumps, systems, pipes, pumps and how to clean themThe most common drainage tube material for air conditioners is polystyrene or polypropylene. Hoses must be purchased special, reinforced, which retain their diameter when bent, do not have ribbing and protrusions inside. Lay them together with the pipeline, hide in a box. To the outdoor unit, drainage tubes for the air conditioner are routed through an opening in the wall.

How to clean the drain in the air conditioner

Before cleaning the drainage in the air conditioner, it is necessary to understand the causes of its clogging, which may be:

  • Illiterate installation of air conditioning drainage;
  • The appearance of ice jams;
  • Dust plugging.

The emergence of ice plugs contributes to the operation of equipment in the cold.

How to clean the drainage of the air conditioner?

  • Without dismantling the internal module, slowly supply water to the evaporator;
  • Dismantling some parts of the module and disconnecting the tubes. The tube is blown, the evaporator is washed with clean water or a special solution;
  • Total disassembly of the internal module: pipes are blown, all parts of the drainage system are flushed.

If the owner can carry out the simplest cleaning, then only the craftsmen from the service center can clean the drain pump to the air conditioner and blow the pipes with the compressor.
