Installation methods for gutter holder

A high-quality drainage system allows you to protect the box of the building from the negative effects of rain and snow moisture. The trays located around the perimeter of the roof, divert water into the ground near the house. For communication to work properly, it is important to correctly mount the gutter of the gutter system: position the brackets at the right angle and with the right pitch.

Definition, purpose and types of brackets

Steel gutter bracket

The bracket is a holder for a round / rectangular gutter. It has the shape of a hook. It fixes and further holds the gutters in a predetermined position, under the desired slope. The bend cross-section should be equal to the diameter of the water inlet. Only in this case can we talk about the full fixation of the system and the absence of extraneous noise during the passage of precipitation through the system.

The market presents a variety of holders for drainage trays. By type of material:

  • Steel galvanized. They are distinguished by durability in the presence of a high-quality protective coating. It is better if it is a new polymer layer. It will additionally drown out the sounds of vibration of the trays under the influence of transported water.
  • Plastic A new solution in the field of catchment system design. The polymer is slightly lighter than steel, and therefore has a lower load on the cornice. In addition, when choosing polymer components for the system, you can choose any color.

The shape distinguishes between round and bent at right angles. Additionally, they may have a special protective coating.

Short, long and versatile brackets

Structurally, hook holders are:

  • Short. Mainly used for fixing on the frontal board after laying the roofing. Options for their fixation before finishing work are not ruled out. Less commonly, short brackets are attached to the ends of roof rafters.
  • Long. Gutter holders do-it-yourself fasten to the rafters. Outwardly resemble hooks with long mounting rails. Additionally, they can be mounted to the crate.
  • Universal. They are a collapsible holder, which is divided into two elements - a hook and a mounting plate. If necessary, it can be used as a long or short bracket. Universal hooks are mounted depending on the selected final configuration.

Short hooks with tilt adjustment are also available on the market. The adjustable bracket for the gutter must be fixed either on an inclined wind board or on the upper crown of the log house. The wizard can tighten only one screw, and the setting for the desired slope is ready - two separate elements will move relative to each other. The specialist may not further check the bending radius of each holder.

How to choose brackets for gutters

Plastic holders are suitable only for a drain made of the same material, it will not withstand steel

When buying hooks for gutters, it is important to rely on the following criteria:

  • Material type. The most durable are steel holders with an additional protective coating or simply galvanized. They hold metal and polymer trays equally well. Plastic hooks can be taken under the same gutter system.
  • The thickness of the products. Optimally, if it will be 2.5 mm.
  • Bending diameter (radius). It must fully correspond to the cross-section / size of the gutters.
  • Type of bracket (short, long, universal). It is selected depending on the available mounting method.
  • The number of hooks. Selected by the estimated distance between the holders during installation. For calculations, the length of one slope must be divided by the planned fixation step. For example, if the length of one slope is 700 mm, and the estimated distance between the hooks is 70 cm, when calculating 700: 70 we get 10 brackets. The same applies for the second ramp. Or you can summarize the length of both sides of the roof and then divide by the step of fastenings.
  • Colour. It should be identical to the selected trays, otherwise the system will look catchy on the background of a monophonic roof.

It is important to pay attention to the presence and integrity of the protective coating, which will protect the metal from corrosion that occurs under the influence of moisture. If the product has chips, cracks, it is better to replace it right there in the store. The discount offered by the seller for low-quality goods, in the end will be a big loss.

Mounting Methods

The type of hook fastening completely depends on the roof structure and the properties of the building. Most often, masters use such installation methods:

  • Fixing hooks to the rafter legs. It is used if the frontal board is not provided in the design.
  • Mounting brackets to the roofing windshield (its horizontal part). More often used under the polymer gutter system.
  • Mounting holders to the crate or bottom of the deck.

To fix the hooks use special screws. The drainpipe is mounted to the wall using special clamps.

There are also a number of rules that it is important to adhere to when installing brackets under the gutters:

  • Along one slope of the roof, all hooks should form a bias towards the receiving funnel. As a rule, it is 2-5 mm for each linear meter of the system.
  • Fix the holders with equal pitch. It can vary from 60 to 90 cm, depending on the cross section of the trays. The larger it is, the less they take a step. For copper systems, it is recommended to indent from the bracket to the bracket 30-50 cm due to the severity of the metal.
  • From the extreme frontal roof board, you need to fix the last in a row hook at a distance of 10-15 cm.
  • The brackets must be positioned so that they eventually form a protrusion of the water intake tray by 30-50% of its total section from under the roof slope. Thus, the effluent is guaranteed to fall into the water intake funnel.

Coated steel trays or polymer channels create a minimum of noise when transporting rainwater. Therefore, they are preferred most often.

Holders prices

The prices of the metal bracket for the gutter and the polymer holder are approximately the same. Sometimes they may vary depending on the manufacturer (domestic / European). Masters can buy hooks at such rates:

  • steel - from 120 to 200 rubles / pcs .;
  • polymer - from 80 rubles. Hunter bracket costs about 95 rubles.

In order for the mounted drainage system to work correctly, not to clog, not to be subjected to excessive or too weak loads, it is important to correctly calculate its throughput in front of the device.
