How to choose and install a spotlight with a motion sensor for the street

Lighting adjacent to the country house street areas are always given increased attention. If a floodlight with a motion sensor is used as a illuminator, the user manages to expand the capabilities of the device to a safety function. The unexpected inclusion of a searchlight while moving an extraneous object will scare him off by a sharp difference in illumination and inform the owner about the appearance of an unwanted guest.

Scope and Benefits

Spotlight with motion sensor provides protection against the penetration of unauthorized people into the territory

The considered category of lighting devices is used for the protection of territories bordering the building, as well as for the purpose of lighting access roads and other sections. In addition, such devices are used to service the following places:

  • zones adjacent to neighbors;
  • sections of industrial enterprises;
  • warehouses and parking lots;
  • various commercial facilities.

Often they are installed in the area of doorways, which allows along with lighting to control the movement of unauthorized persons and significantly expands the scope.

Lighting devices of this class are characterized by increased functionality, small size and ease of maintenance. In addition, they have the following advantages:

  • durability (to a greater extent this applies to models in the LED version);
  • ease of installation;
  • profitability achieved due to the short duration of the inclusion;
  • resistance to climatic and other types of influences: vibrations, noise, sudden changes in temperature and precipitation.

The list of advantages can be supplemented by the ability to customize to the specified parameters and the validity of the installation in almost any place where there is a reliable foundation.

Types of spotlights and selection procedure

Among the known models of floodlights with DD, the following types stand out:

  • devices working with incandescent bulbs or energy-efficient light sources;
  • more efficient halogen spotlights;
  • LED devices rated for a voltage of not more than 12 volts.

Each of the varieties of spotlights with a motion sensor for streets has its own advantages and disadvantages, the consideration of which is very important in the selection process. All things being equal, preference is given to the model that is best suited for the protected area.

LED spotlights are usually used to illuminate the entrances to the garage located on the territory or to the house itself.

In various types of illuminators with sensors, sensitivity adjustment is provided to adapt it to specific operating conditions. After its correct setting, the devices react only to objects of a certain size. In addition, in some models, temporary adjustments are allowed, which determine the delay in switching off the device after operation.

In order to choose a suitable model of a spotlight with DD for outdoor installation, two rules should be followed. First of all, you need to decide on the illuminator used in it, the choice of which determines the operational reliability of the device. Secondly, it is important to familiarize yourself with the parameters of the motion sensor that satisfy all the requirements for it.

Principle of operation

The principle of the spotlight

If a constantly moving object is detected in the protected area, the illuminator turns on for a fixed time. After a certain period of time, set by the selected delay, the light turns off until the next sensor is triggered. Further, the whole process is repeated in the same order.

The function of the sensors that control the operation of the illuminator is usually performed by IR sensors of the "passive" type. The action of these devices is based on a change in the temperature background in the event of the appearance of a person or animal in the sensitivity zone of an element. After its registration, the sensor generates a control pulse, which ensures that the searchlight lamp is turned on for a specified time.

Mounting Spotlights

As a rule, there are no special difficulties with the installation of a searchlight. First, a suitable place is chosen where the device can record the slightest movement of foreign objects. It is determined so that the spotlight illuminates the largest possible area and ensures its complete overlap.

Some samples of lighting devices allow operation from a backup battery connected to the power line in the event of a power outage. In this case, before installation it is necessary to provide a separate place for it, which must be reliably protected from the weather.

Easy installation of the device allows you to perform all operations yourself. You don’t even need a tool for this. A special bracket is provided in the scope of delivery, by means of which the spotlight is mounted in the selected place.

Connection and setup

The procedure for connecting the device to the network depends on the configuration, which varies with individual models. There are two performances. In the first case, the sensor and the illuminator are located in a single housing and are electrically connected. Their connection to the mains supply will be standard through the block included in the kit. In another design, they are delivered separately and require additional switching. In this case, the following options for connecting them to the mains are possible:

  • direct connection through DD;
  • installation of an auxiliary switch mounted parallel to it;
  • connection through the built-in sensor of several spotlights;
  • inclusion of the illuminator with several sensors.

With a direct connection, the lighting is turned on when a person appears in the protected area - without the DD triggering, the light does not light. The second case is more universal and allows two options for user choice. He can operate the device in automatic mode (the switch is not activated) or turn on the lighting manually. In this case, the keyboard device works simultaneously with the sensor, so that switching is done either in one way or another.

A pair of spotlights are mounted in parallel, which increases not only their total power in watts (W), but also increases the overall illumination of the controlled space. In the latter situation, several sensors are connected in parallel at the discretion of the owner, expanding the sensitivity zone.

Setting up a searchlight with a sensor is carried out in accordance with the instructions attached to it. It consists of two stages: the choice of the direction of radiation of the lighting device and the adjustment of the sensor. The desired position of the illuminator is set by the control knobs located on the brackets, and the sensitivity of the sensor - through special adjustment elements on its body.

When setting the illumination level of the sensor’s response in open areas, it is adjusted to a minimum. With insufficient lighting, the exact value of this indicator is selected experimentally, after which it is adjusted depending on the circumstances.
