Water purification: what you need to know about it

According to many people, boiling is one of the best options for water treatment. But this is an erroneous statement, since bacteria continue to be in the liquid, and trace elements of great importance to the human body are destroyed.

During the destruction of calcium and magnesium salts, a certain amount of which is always contained in water, an insoluble precipitate forms. It accumulates on the surfaces of the heating elements, forming a scale that is familiar to everyone.

Boiling chlorinated water is accompanied by the formation of harmful compounds, which often lead to serious illnesses. Such water is known for containing a large amount of dioxin. For the human body, it is a poison, and given that it is not removed from chlorinated water, it is not recommended for use in domestic and food purposes.

Features of choosing a water treatment system

The life of a person, especially living in the city, cannot be called safe and comfortable without such an important process as water treatment.

Choosing a water treatment system is a rather difficult task. And the priority criterion here is by no means the cost of equipment. Manufacturers supply the market with a wide variety of water purification systems that differ in terms of service life, degree of purification and level of process automation.

In order not to make a mistake in choosing a water treatment system, it is necessary to clarify the characteristics of the water entering the home, as well as more or less accurately determine the following parameters:

  • type of impurities - in different seasons the amount and composition of impurities can be different, which must be taken into account when determining this parameter;
  • technical characteristics of the city’s water treatment facilities;
  • costs of water treatment and filter replacement;
  • type of residue after cleaning;
  • availability of supplies;
  • maintainability of the system.

Domestic water treatment

Unlike drinking, you can not use two-stage treatment for household water. In addition, the cost of such a treatment process is much lower.

For water purification, which will be used for domestic purposes, the system is usually installed in the inlet section of the water supply. Water purification is carried out using coarse filters.

There are several types of coarse filters:

  • disk
  • filling;
  • mesh.

Water passing through such filters completely retains its mineral properties and does not harm household appliances. But to drink such a liquid is still not worth it.

You need to get rid of water not only from impurities, but also from pathogens. To do this, you can use the following methods:

  • exposure to natural substances based on manganese dioxide;
  • chlorination;
  • ultraviolet radiation.

With this treatment, dissolved iron takes on the form of sediment, which then goes into the sewer.

Be sure to soften the water. This procedure involves the removal of both mineral salts and organic compounds from a liquid. The efficiency of removing impurities from water increases due to the action of ion-exchange resins, in a certain amount contained in the filters.

The final step in cleaning household water is to pass it through a charcoal filter. This material has proven itself for a very long time. Due to the presence of a number of remarkable properties in activated carbon, water gets rid of various undesirable inclusions dissolved in it in one or another amount, for example, gases, chlorine, specific odors and others.

Drinking water purification

Systems designed for the purification of drinking water, unlike similar means of purification of household water, are installed at the outlet of the water supply. The main component of such water treatment equipment is activated carbon obtained from coconut shells.

Drinking water can be cleaned with several types of filters.

Filter jugs

The low cost of such equipment has determined its widespread use. However, low throughput and long cleaning time make it difficult to use filter jugs. The volume of the water tank is about 3 l, and as for the throughput of the devices, it varies in the range of 150-250 l / h The use of jug filters for cooking is considered inappropriate.

Flowing

These are original nozzles intended for installation on the crane. Flow-type filters have a flow rate of 100–400 l / h. Every 1 thousand liters should be changed filters. A significant disadvantage of such water treatment equipment is its high cost.

Stationary

Installation of such filters is usually done under a sink. They are combined with the main water supply, equipped with a separate tap. Water in such a system has a pressure no less than in a pipe without filters. The maximum resource of stationary devices is 15 thousand liters, and they pay off quite quickly.

High quality water treatment will ensure the simultaneous use of such means as:

  • ion exchange resins;
  • carbon fibers;
  • carbon filters.

Even better, water purifying devices containing silver. But due to the high cost, they are not very popular with consumers.

The choice of this or that type of water treatment system is the buyer's own business, and it is determined by the current needs and budget for the purchase.
