Do-it-yourself video with instructions for installing deflectors on windows

One of the most popular types of car tuning among car owners is the installation of deflectors on windows. Thanks to these translucent strips made of durable polymer materials, the appearance of the machine is improved, and rain, wind, and debris are prevented from entering the interior.

Deflector Selection

To install deflectors easily and without problems, you need to know how to choose them correctly. First of all, you need to consider that for each specific car model, different deflectors are produced. It is possible to determine for which particular model of the machine they are by special marking on the packaging or on the strips themselves.

Since all cars differ in design, it’s not worth trying to find universal deflectors on sale, since there simply aren’t any. You should also know that the door frames of some cars are equipped with chrome trim. Deflectors for such machines are made with imitation of chrome overlays.

Today, such protective strips are produced by many manufacturers, including Chinese ones. If the model is original, then it will cost much more, while most Chinese products have a better price.

Before you pay for the purchase, try on each strip to the place where it should be fixed. If you notice at least a slight discrepancy in size, then it is better to refuse the purchase.

Functional purpose

  • Protective strips installed on the windows contribute to the partial protection of the vehicle interior from sunlight.
  • During movement, an aerodynamic flow is generated, directing dust, small pebbles and debris to the sides.
  • During rain, the driver can ride with the windows slightly down. Thus, a comfortable temperature is maintained in the cabin, and raindrops do not fall on passengers.
  • Cigarette smoke quickly disappears from the passenger compartment if someone smokes in the front seat.

Installation

There are the following methods for attaching protective strips to windows:

  • metal staples;
  • gluing to the outside of the door frame;
  • installation under sealing gum.

Bracketing is rarely used, since this method is considered impractical: scratches can form from the brackets on the car surface.

Many deflectors already have an adhesive strip with which they are glued to the door frame. This method is considered the most simple and convenient, so every car owner can easily and quickly stick the deflectors with their own hands. However, it should be borne in mind that the protective strips-visor should be located on the windows perfectly evenly. If you allow skewing, the strip will have to be torn off and glued again, which can lead to insufficiently strong mounting of the deflector.

The installation procedure must be carried out in a dry place. The deflectors are mounted on a clean, dry and non-greasy surface.

For degreasing, you can use alcohol, ordinary vodka or a special napkin, which, as a rule, is included with the strips.

Gluing

  1. First you need to prepare the surface to which the wind strips will be attached - wash, dry and degrease.
  2. Peel off the protective tape from the adhesive layer by about 3-4 cm, and bring its ends up.
  3. Then attach the strip with the ends peeled off, make sure that it lies evenly and, gently pulling at one end of the protective film, press the deflector along its entire length.
  4. Fix the result with light pressure on the strip so that it adheres to the paintwork surface as firmly as possible.
  5. Some car owners who install a deflector with their own hands use a hairdryer for the best effect. After one strip is glued, it is treated along the entire length with hot air, while pressing it by hand or with a rubber roller.
  6. Repeat the procedure with all other windows.

How to properly perform the gluing procedure can be seen in the following video:

Some models of deflectors are sold without an adhesive layer. This means that they must be installed in the sealing tape in which the glass is located. This method is even simpler than the previous one, but it requires some physical effort.

  1. Before installation completely lower a car glass.
  2. Remove the sealing tape from the top of the window.
  3. Then insert the baffle in the hole formed after removing the seal. Continue to hold it with one hand, and with the other begin to return the sealing tape into place.
  4. The sealant will enter the grooves quite hard, but it must be returned to the same position in which it was before. As a result, the deflector will be a tightly fixed sealing tape.
  5. The instructions from the manufacturer indicate that the correct installation should be indicated by the unhindered entry of glass into the groove of the seal. However, in practice, at first the glass can rise and fall quite hard, and sometimes it does not completely close at all. In this case, it is recommended to open and close the glass at least 20 times in a row so that it is rubbed against the seal. During the operation of the car, try to raise and lower the windows as often as possible until they enter the grooves quite easily.

How to properly install the deflectors in the sealing gum is shown in the following video:

Sometimes some car owners are faced with such a problem when the protective strip for the glass does not stick, or stick very weakly. This may be due to the expired shelf life of the adhesive layer. In this case, it is recommended to install using a double-sided mounting tape, cutting off a strip of the required length from it.
