The efficiency of the device and storm sewer as a whole depends on the quality of the grate of the storm water inlet. If the fixture is not installed, the sewage holes will quickly become clogged with debris. Without gratings, storm water inlets do not look aesthetically pleasing. Purpose of gratings
The main purpose is the reception of surface wastewater from streets, courtyards and other territories. Devices apply:

The cells in the gratings are designed in such a way as to allow in addition to water flows fine-grained debris. But at the same time, the size of the gaps does not allow large debris to get into storm drains, preventing them from clogging.
Also, bars are needed for the safety of those living in the house. They do not allow a person or a pet to fall inside a storm.
Production material
Strong and durable are cast iron products. For their manufacture, only a particularly strong metal of a grayish tint is used, coated on top with a layer of paint and varnish waterproofing material or galvanization.

Storm water inlets are also made of special frost-resistant polypropylene. It is immune to temperature changes, the negative effects of chemicals, resistant to overloads, but inferior in strength to the metal. Polymer products are low in weight, which means that they are easy to mount. During installation, the use of special equipment is not required, you can install yourself.
Types of Gratings
Cast iron products are divided into three varieties, each of which has its own shapes and sizes:
- DB - a large design of a rectangular type, weighing 115 kg, dimensions 570x835x120 mm.
- DM - small devices of two types: DM1 weighing 60 kg and a size of 634x414x95 mm, DM2 weighing 89 kg and dimensions 924x480x95 mm.
- DK is a round-shaped device weighing up to 100 kg, a cross section of 775 mm and a height of 120 mm.
The dimensions of the products may have a slight difference, it depends on the technical conditions adopted by the manufacturer. The standard sizes of plastic storm water inlets are 30x30x30, 40x40x40 and 50x50x50 cm.
Classification of polymer products is carried out at the most possible load. Depending on this indicator, they are divided classes:
- A - up to 1.5 tons. They are used on personal plots and walkways for pedestrians.
- B - up to 12.5 tons. Mounted in garage cooperatives, in car parks.
- C - up to 25 tons. Used on highways or gas stations.
- D - up to 40 tons. They keep the weight of the truck and are suitable for highways where the passage of such vehicles is allowed.
- E - up to 60 tons. They are placed in the parking lots of freight vehicles and in other places with increased load.
- F - up to 90 tons. They are used in areas of movement of heavy special equipment.
Choosing a class of storm water inlets, prefer the option, the load on which will be slightly more than the necessary value.
Criterias of choice
The choice of the rain grate depends on the device that it will overlap. It, in turn, is selected based on the planned stormwater system. The design of the latter is carried out taking into account the data:
- the largest amount of precipitation - these data can be found by looking at SNiPs, there you need to clarify the maximum snow cover;
- moisture absorption coefficient - depends on the coverage of the territory (crushed stone, soil of various types, concrete);
- the size of the area from which the drainage will take place.
When selecting a cast iron product, evaluate the quality of the anti-corrosion coating. The polymer model must be equipped with a reliable latch that connects it to the main unit.
It is also necessary to consider the distance between the bars of the grill. The fine-meshed product looks more elegant, but the density of the intersecting slats leads to a greater splattering of drops, which gradually spoils the material around the grate.
The cost of products depends on the manufacturer, the size of the device and the material from which it is made. On average, prices for cast-iron grate of the storm water inlet are in the range from 2800 to 7000 rubles. Polymer products are cheaper - the price starts from 350 rubles.
Lattices well protect storm water inlets from blockages, but need regular cleaning. If you do not neglect it, the sewer line will work without interruptions for a long time.
