How to clean a sewer with soda and vinegar

Sewerage can become clogged for various reasons: as a result of greasy sediment or stuck debris, improper installation. And if the latter option requires repair, then organic blockages can be removed by the popular method. This is an effective and budgetary cleaning of the sewer line using soda and vinegar.

Preparation for cleaning

If the house has only acetic acid, you need to dilute it with water 1: 9

Before cleaning the system with soda-vinegar reagent, you need to check the condition of siphons and pipes. Due to the pressure created by the chemical combination of acid and alkali, leaks can occur in weak places. If it is assumed that the blockage is caused by a foreign object, use a plunger or a special plumbing cable.

If clogging occurred due to deposits of fats and accumulations of organic matter, the following items should be prepared:

  • soda powder;
  • table vinegar;
  • pure cotton flap;
  • latex gloves.

Instead of vinegar, you can apply an essence diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 7.

Methods for removing blockage soda-vinegar mixture

The interaction of the acidic ingredient with soda causes a violent reaction, which contributes to high-quality cleaning of the pipeline. It’s easy to carry out the procedure:

  1. Put on rubber gloves and pour half a packet of sodium bicarbonate into the drain hole.
  2. Pour the same amount of table vinegar after the soda.
  3. Close the drain hole for two hours with a stopper.
  4. Remove the plug and fill the system with hot water.

You can flush the sewer through any drain hole: in the toilet, in the bathroom, sink, even the inspection hatch. It must be remembered that when mixing the active components, a large amount of foam is formed that can be thrown out. As a result, to clean the line with a mixture of soda and vinegar, you need a tight-fitting plug that can be built from a clean cotton cloth.

If there is no vinegar in the house, salt is used as an activator of soda. Cleaning the sewer with a soda-salt mixture is simple and safe, but not as effective as the vinegar option. Mix the components in equal proportions, then pour the resulting mixture into the drain hole and pour a liter or two of boiling water there. It is best to do work late in the evening so that the system is not used for several hours.

Sewer drains are cleaned and just soda if the clogging is insignificant and only slows down the flow of water. A pack of sodium bicarbonate is poured and poured with three glasses of boiling water. This should be done three times, repeating the procedure every hour.

The use of caustic soda

The substance, also called caustic soda, differs from simple baking soda and from a calcined version. In combination with an acid activator, it can even remove serious congestion.

Sewer pipe cleaning with caustic soda and vinegar:

  1. 20 ml of vinegar or the same amount of diluted citric acid are poured into the pipeline.
  2. Fall asleep 40 g of dry caustic. Substances will react, which will become noticeable when a large amount of foam appears.
  3. When the foam subsides a little, plug the drain hole with a cork or rag roller.
  4. Two hours later, washed with slightly warm water under high pressure.

It is undesirable to clean plastic sewer pipes with this method - a caustic solution can damage the polymer layer inside the line. For such systems, it is better to use baking soda. Caustic is quite suitable for metal sewers. Caustic soda in combination with acid will dissolve clogging and remove plaque.It will also smooth out irregularities on the inner surfaces of the pipe sections, which will prevent the formation of deposits. The number of components must be accurate, because the effect of the composition is long. The reaction continues for some time after rinsing.

Soda and vinegar for the toilet

Using a soda-vinegar solution, you can not only dissolve the blockage, but also remove lime and rust deposits from the toilet. For this, half a glass of food powder is poured into a bowl of a plumbing fixture. Vinegar is poured next. Perform uniform processing of the inner surface of the bowl. After 30 minutes, clean with a brush and drain the water several times.

If a pronounced vinegar odor is not a problem, you can try another way. A glass of vinegar is poured over the surface of the toilet bowl. After 30 minutes, wet the brush with water, sprinkle with soda powder and clean the toilet. Perform the procedure until the stains are completely removed.

They clean the sewer system with a soda-vinegar mixture and for prophylactic purposes. Acid-alkaline composition helps to remove accumulated fat and disinfect, relieve unpleasant odors. But such techniques do not save with deep clogging and technological failures. It will require mechanical or hydrodynamic cleaning of the line.
