Varieties of sockets: materials, design and dimensions

A slug is a blank of a certain form used for fastening household installation products of a closed or open type. They are usually understood as sockets, switches, and also special junction boxes known to most users. The socket box for outdoor installation is made in various designs, differing in their shape and material used. Their analogues, used for concealed or internal installation, are traditionally made in the form of a special fastening structure - a plastic cup.

Types of sockets for open installation

Preparing a Square Socket for Installation

An external product or a socket overhead is used when arranging an open electrical wiring, which determines its design features.

The main differences between products of the open type are manifested in the form given to them during production.

According to this criterion, all known samples of sub-rosettes in external execution are divided into the following types:

  • rectangular blanks for securing outlets;
  • square sockets;
  • oval (round) products commonly used to install single samples.

Workpieces also differ in a number of ways, the main of which are the material of manufacture, design features and dimensions. According to the material, the sockets are divided into plastic, products from glued plywood or from a simple wooden board.

Rectangular Metal Double Socket

A standard rectangular box can have one, two, three or more single “seats”. Professionals call such products multi-seat.

For the installation of several outlets, it is allowed to use the so-called "modular" socket boxes, on the basis of which, if desired, an arbitrary number of places is accumulated. Using a set of several modules, you can easily get 4-point-socket outlets, for example.

Typical (standard) characteristics of such products traditionally include:

  • dimensions;
  • specified thickness;
  • diameter (for round blanks).

According to the method of fixation, the devices are divided into models intended for installation on a solid concrete base and mounted on a plasterboard wall. For the second case, an undersocket for hollow walls is more suitable, in the design of which it is possible to fix it on such bases.

Products for hollow walls

Installation box for hollow walls

The installation box for plasterboard sheets is an indispensable element, without which installation in the so-called "hollow" walls is impossible. In this case, it, together with other components, forms a structural frame, on the basis of which the entire apartment wiring is equipped.

On such installation products are mounted not only standard sockets, but also switches, junction boxes and regulators of various classes. They reliably fix all electrical devices installed on them, guaranteeing their performance for a long time.

The typical installation size of these samples, as well as all other types of undergrowths, is 68 mm. For various manufacturers, it varies within small limits (up to 70 mm), but at the same time, edges decorated as stiffeners are taken into account. Without them, the size of the product is the same - 68 mm.

Selection order

When considering the criteria that guide the selection of rosettes in a rectangular design, special attention is paid to solving the following issues:

  • For what specific purposes are they used.
  • How to determine the type of sockets needed, suitable for the interior of this room.
  • Which is better: modular or multi-seat open products.

When choosing, the method of fixing the purchased devices is also taken into account.

Stated goals

Socket Taitong

For the installation of “smart” outlets and other elements of intelligent equipment, it is most convenient to use square socket boxes from Taitong. They are presented in open sale by models with the following performance characteristics:

  • landing dimensions: 86x86x34 mm;
  • case material - PVC plastic.

The design has two built-in nuts, which are necessary for fastening smart sockets.

Appearance (design)

When assessing the appearance of products suitable for the interior of the premises, they proceed from the possibility of selecting them according to color, shape or design features.

Domestic industry produces special podrozetniki, decorated in the style of "retro". They are made as antique stylized elements of electrical wiring, consisting of a pair of colored twisted conductors. During its design, individual cores are fixed on special rollers, also made in the "retro" style. In the usual version, when choosing a form, they proceed from the requirements for compliance with the design of the room.

Oval patterns are preferred in rooms with soft contours. Square and rectangular counterparts are more suitable for modern interiors, decorated in the style of "High Tech".

Modular or multi-seat

Mounting box with sockets

When choosing the number of places on the rosette and their design usually proceed from the following considerations:

  • If you plan to install several electrical devices at the same time, it is more reasonable to choose a multi-seat socket, specially designed for these purposes.
  • In a situation where in the future it is possible to expand the total number of wiring products, preference is given to modular designs.

The right choice of a suitable socket for interiors is a responsible matter. Only taking into account all the mentioned factors will allow you to make the only right decision and choose the right instance.
