Connecting Legrand circuit breakers

Wiring products are used by consumers as functional devices and play an important role in interior decoration. Therefore, manufacturers, developing such devices, pay attention not only to technical characteristics, but also to the appearance of the products, trying to ensure that the products meet the requirements of modern design. Among the world manufacturers of electrical accessories, one of the first places is occupied by the Legrand company, whose products are distinguished by a variety of shapes and colors.

Legrand Company

The international company Legrand, whose headquarters is located in the city of Limoges (France), was founded in 1866 and was originally engaged in the manufacture of table porcelain. However, the company subsequently switched to the production of porcelain insulators (1904), and then focused on the manufacture of electrical accessories (1949). Since then, continuously developing, the small enterprise has turned into a large international company with branches located in more than 60 countries of the world. They produce at its enterprises a wide range of products for electrical purposes, starting from sockets and ending with the creation of complex technical solutions for electrical and information networks.

Legrand is the only company offering Russian enterprises and trade organizations a full range of electrical equipment, developed taking into account the latest scientific and technological achievements and meeting the requirements of international standards.

Legrand products are fully certified for compliance with regulatory and technical documentation in force in Russia.

Features and advantages of Legrand electrical accessories

Legrand electrical accessories have a high level of electrical safety

Legrand wiring accessories are in steady demand all over the world. They differ from existing analogues by high quality workmanship, developed functionality, ease of installation and ease of operation. A distinctive feature of this brand is also a stylish and elegant design. At the same time, without exception, all wiring accessories manufactured at the company's enterprises have a high level:

  • electrical safety;
  • fault tolerance;
  • fire resistance;
  • energy saving.

In Russia, Legrand offers consumers electrical accessories with which it is easy to give office and residential premises a modern and attractive look. For their manufacture, only high-quality materials (porcelain, metal, glass, plastic, etc.) with a wide color gamut are used, which allows you to choose the necessary installation products for the interior of any room.

Popular Series and Classification

Legrand valena life

Legrand offers consumers a wide variety of circuit breakers. All of them are divided into series, which differ from each other both in functionality and in appearance. The most popular series are:

  • Valena and Valena Life are one- and two-gang switches and switches of the classical (square) shape, made in the colors "aluminum", "white", "ivory". Some models are equipped with a backlight. Products of the Valena Life series are distinguished by an elegantly curved shape of the keys, which allows you to turn on the light with a light touch of your finger.
  • Galea Life - waterproof models that are part of this series of one- and two-key products, are distinguished by a strict design and original colors (dark bronze, titanium, mother of pearl, etc.).Many of them are equipped with backlight or indication.

    Legrand celiane
  • GeaLine - a series of refined models of an expanded assortment (premium). They are available in the colors “white graphite”, “ivory”, “titanium” and are characterized by an original combination of square frames and rounded keys. It also attracts attention to the fact that genuine leather, porcelain, wood and glass are used for decoration.
  • Quteo - a series of one- and two-gang switches and switches designed for outdoor installation on a wall surface (overhead). For the manufacture of their body is used shockproof plastic ABS.
  • Plexo - a series of waterproof one- and two-key models of laid on type. They are mounted in utility rooms (garage, basement, etc.) with high humidity (protection class IP55 or IP66).

    Legrand plexo
  • Cariva is a series of inexpensive one- and two-key models designed for installation in offices and residential premises. Some are backlit. There are also waterproof options.
  • Etika is a series of economy switches, the exterior design details of which are made of plastic. Available in one or two keys. Their distinctive feature is the lack of a terminal strip - the wires are fixed using a special nut.

All switches and switches Legrand are classified by functional purpose, type of installation and method of control.

Switches Legrand

By functional purpose, the following product groups are distinguished:

  • Switches are devices equipped with one or more pairs of contacts. In the on state, these contacts are closed (the lighting is activated), and in the off state they are open (the lighting is off). As a rule, switches open only the contacts to which the phase wires are connected, but there are also two-pole options - in them the contacts also break the neutral (“zero”) wire.
  • Switches are devices that use three or more contacts. In the “On” position, the first and second contacts are closed to each other, and in the “Off” position - the first and third. Switches equipped with three contacts are sometimes referred to as “bi-directional switches”. They are used, as a rule, in cases where lighting is controlled from two places.
  • Cross switches - devices that switch two separate lines crosswise (when switching, the phase and “zero” change places). Such switches are also called “intermediate” - in lighting control circuits they are installed between the switches in two directions, which allows you to turn on light sources from three or more places.
  • Circuit breakers are devices designed to protect light sources from overvoltage or short circuit.
Series Legrand for overhead installation

According to the type of installation, the switches / switches are divided into overhead and built-in.

  • Overhead are used with an open type of wiring.
  • The built-in ones are intended for use with hidden laying of electric wires. Unlike overhead models, their actuator is hidden in a specially made recess on the wall surface.

According to the control method, switches / switches are:

  • push-button;
  • sensory;
  • keyboards;
  • responsive to the movement of people.

Key type switches / switches are the most common. They are equipped with most residential and office premises. Between themselves, such devices differ in the number of keys with which you can control certain groups of lighting devices.

Legrand Celiane Touch

The introduction of innovative technologies allowed the developers of Legrand to create actuators:

  • driven by a light touch of the hand (touch type models);
  • activating lighting when it appears and turning it off when there are no people in the room (devices equipped with infrared sensors).

The models with button control, which appeared relatively recently, are convenient in operation and are able to bring a certain originality and elegance to the interior of the room. At the same time, their use will require some time for the user to get used to.

Connection of switches / switches Legrand

Installation of Legrand switches / switches is carried out in accordance with the attached instructions. In addition, the connection diagram is duplicated on the back of the product.

How to connect a Legrand switch

Single-key switch wiring diagram

For a correctly connected Legrand switch (two-key or one-key), the keys in the on state are in the up position, and in the off state, the down position. To do this, the phase wires are connected to the input terminals, which are marked with the letter L or arrows indicating the path to the center of the switch. In this case, the conductors going to the load (lighting lamps) are connected to the output terminals, indicated by arrows, indicating the direction from the center of the switch.

In this way, the switch is connected to the lighting devices according to the “phase -> switch -> load -> zero” scheme, which ensures that the load is not energized after switching off.

If you connect the phase wire to the output terminals, and the wires going to the load to the switch input, the key will be inverted and there will be a danger of electric shock to the user when replacing the light bulb, which will turn on after switching off.

All work with the electrician must be carried out in a de-energized room

Connect the switch in the following order:

  1. Disconnect the power supply.
  2. Using a flat screwdriver, the keys and the frame are carefully removed from the switch.
  3. Strip electrical wires to the length indicated on the back of the switch.
  4. Connect the electrical wires to the corresponding terminals of the switch.
  5. Install the switch in the mounting box.
  6. Replace the frame and keys.

The two-key switch is assembled from two one-key switches, so the connection diagrams of each half are identical.

Connecting a Legrand switch with backlight and indication

An additional lamp in the switches is used for such purposes:

  • The backlight, where it acts as a pointer indicating where the switch is located. It lights up when the switch is off. To connect the backlight in the Legrand switches (with one or two keys), a phase wire is enough.
  • Indication of the load in those cases when the lighting devices are located outside the zone of visibility of a person (shed, pantry, etc.). If the switch is inoperative, the indicator lamp does not light.

The load indication mode is activated only if not only a phase wire, but also a neutral is connected to the input contacts of the circuit breaker.
