Self assembly humidifier

When the air in the room becomes dry, this immediately affects one's well-being, so forced humidification of the atmosphere in the house is a necessity. It is quite possible to make an air humidifier with your own hands, if you do not want to splurge on household appliances. The principle of its operation is simple, and manufacturing schemes and opportunities for implementation are numerous.

Air humidity

Humidifier can be assembled with your own hands from available materials

The optimal level of humidity varies between 40-70%. In the winter, in apartments where special devices for humidification are not used, it does not rise above 35%.

To measure air saturation with moisture, use a special device - a hygrometer. In different rooms, the humidity level will be different. The kitchen is usually higher due to fumes during cooking, so special attention should be paid to other rooms. It is especially important that the air is sufficiently moist in the bedroom.

The need for humidification

In winter, the respiratory system suffers primarily due to low humidity.

The lack of moisture in the air contributes to the deterioration in chronic respiratory diseases, allergies. It is necessary to moisten the air in the room where the kids live. The children's body needs favorable conditions for growth and development.

Unpleasant consequences of dry air in the house:

  • drying of the mucous membranes of the nose, throat, eyes;
  • runny nose, which occurs as a reaction of the body to insufficient moisture;
  • respiratory tract irritation due to increased dust in the air;
  • dyspnea;
  • dry skin;
  • drying of wooden furniture;
  • the spread of infection, since a dry environment is more favorable for pathogenic viruses.

To increase the humidity in the room, you need to evaporate some water. Turning into steam, it will dissipate, humidity will increase.

Humidifier principle

A home-made humidifier heats the water and evaporates it into the room

Numerous devices for humidification can be classified according to the principle of action:

  • In steam humidifiers, the design provides a heater located inside the device, which heats the water to a boil, and it evaporates.
  • Traditional devices that produce cold steam operate on the principle of spraying moisture, which is blown by a fan.
  • Ultrasonic models are equipped with an emitter of ultrasonic frequencies, under the influence of which water turns into fine water dust - fog.
  • In addition to humidification, air washes purify and ionize the atmosphere in the house, eliminate unpleasant odors.

Home moisturizers can play the role of a night lamp or air fragrance.

Varieties of homemade appliances

If it is not possible to purchase a ready-made humidifier for your home, making it your own hands will not be difficult. Simple options for fixtures made from improvised materials will do. Factory-made and home-made humidifiers work according to one of the principles: heating or ventilation.

Water tanks

To increase humidity, you can hang special containers of water on the battery

So that the air is saturated with moisture, you can place containers with water everywhere. The method is ineffective if the air is very dry, because the water naturally evaporates for a long time.

From a plastic bottle

In a bottle with a volume of 1.5-2 liters on the side, you need to make a hole about 10-15 cm long and 5-7 cm wide.The capacity is tied to the central heating pipe with the hole up. From a fabric or bandage folded in several layers, make a long strip. Its center is placed in the hole in the bottle, and the container itself is filled with water. The ends of the fabric strip are wound onto the pipe in a spiral. The material will be gradually moistened due to the fact that the middle part is immersed in water. The liquid will quickly evaporate, increasing the humidity level in the room due to exposure to high temperature from the battery.

Battery Towel

You need to take a terry towel. Thin is not suitable, because it will dry out very quickly. The larger and thicker the towel, the better. It needs to be moistened well, squeezed so that water does not drain, and cover it with a battery on top. If you do this in every room and periodically moisten the fabric, breathing will become noticeably easier.

Some users will improve this method by attaching one edge of the towel to the battery on top and lowering the bottom into a container of water. The fabric does not have to be wetted every time.

From a plastic container

You can buy a large plastic container with a lid in the store. It is advisable to take on wheels. Additionally required:

  • fan or cooler;
  • Power Supply;
  • soldering iron, knife.

On the sides you need to make small holes with a heated drill or knife, and in the lid - a hole for mounting the fan. The cooler must be securely fixed so that it does not fall into a box filled with water, and connected to the power supply. Wires should be insulated. Then, water is poured into the box and the fan is turned on.

From expanded clay and a bucket

Expanded clay absorbs water well and evaporates it for a long time

Expanded clay humidifier serves as a filler in this humidifier, because it absorbs moisture well. To make the device you will need:

  • two large plastic waste baskets and two smaller ones;
  • 12 liter bucket;
  • aquarium pump;
  • cooler with a diameter of 140 mm;
  • building hair dryer or plastic screeds.

Small baskets need to be fused with a hairdryer or fastened with ties. Two large baskets are also connected, but first they are placed in small ones fastened together. A hole is cut out in the bottom of the upper basket and expanded clay is poured through it. The pebbles should be large enough to not wake up in the holes. Water is poured into a bucket and a pump for an aquarium is placed there. The design of the baskets put in a bucket. Tubes from the pump are brought to its upper part so that the water moistens the expanded clay. The liquid will drain back into the bucket. From above it is necessary to install a cooler that will direct the air flow to expanded clay so that the water evaporates more intensively.

Ultrasonic humidifier

Homemade Ultrasonic Humidifier

You can purchase a ready-made home ultrasonic humidifier in the store or make it yourself.

Required:

  • power supply for 12 V;
  • ultrasound transducer;
  • corrugated pipe 30 cm long;
  • plastic container with a lid;
  • hot glue gun and glue sticks.

In the container, you need to make one hole on the side for the wire, and the other in the lid for the pipe by its diameter. The converter is installed at the bottom, the power supply is connected to it, having qualitatively insulated the connection. The hole through which the wire passes is filled with hot glue and the pipe is fixed in the same way. Then you need to pour water into the container and the device can be used. For half an hour, such a device is able to humidify the air in one living room.

From the fan

The fan is used in various home-made air humidification devices:

  • The easiest way to hang on the fan, on the side where the blown air is directed, is a wet towel. Due to the movement of the stream, the water will evaporate quite quickly. Only as it dries, the towel will need to be moistened.
  • Under a working fan, put any container with water. A stream of air will spread evaporative moisture.

In most home-made devices, a fan or cooler is used as one of the main parts.

Additional Humidification Tips

It is recommended to dry clothes in the apartment to increase humidity

Small household changes will help improve the home microclimate, increase humidity by several percent, at least for a while.

After washing, it is recommended to dry the laundry at home. Humidity rises a little, but it's better than nothing. If the laundry dries in the bathroom, you need to open the doors, and it is better to place it on a special dryer near the radiator or heater.

Indoor plants also help to increase the humidity in the apartment. If the flowers are placed on the windowsills, the water from the central heating battery quickly evaporates after irrigation. It is only necessary to regularly water the plants. Some plant species evaporate water in a particularly large volume. For example, cyperus is capable of releasing up to 3 liters of water per day into the air.

Wet cleaning brings double benefits. The air becomes cleaner because dust is wiped off all surfaces. At the same time, the moisture left after cleaning evaporates from a large area, due to this the moisture level rises in a short time. After cleaning, it is worth hanging the washed rags on the battery, so that there is even more benefit.

The aquarium promotes continuous humidification. To make evaporation more intense, it does not need to be covered. The best option is an aquarium with snails and living plants.

Using a simple spray gun you can moisten the air by spraying water on the curtains, indoor flowers. It is important that the water and the atomizer itself are clean, otherwise spots will remain on the fabric.

Constantly working electrical appliances reduce air humidity.

In order for the air in the house to always be humid enough, it is not necessary to purchase expensive household appliances, it is quite possible to do with homemade appliances. All of them are more or less effective. With proper skills, it is easy to assemble a device that is not inferior in performance to purchased models.
