Classification, types and installation of ventilation diffusers

What is a diffuser and what is it used for? Its main purpose is the supply and removal of air from the room, in addition, it plays the role of a distributor of air flows. In fact, the diffuser is an ordinary grille that completes the ventilation duct. It has a special shape that ensures optimal distribution of air, that is, diffusion (mixing) of the air masses present inside the room. A special form of the lattice, as well as the presence of various (small or slit-like) holes, blades, are designed to facilitate this process. In order to prevent air from entering the room directly, a static pressure chamber was made, but in fact - simply expanding the air duct to control the air flow rate and prevent draft.

Diffusers are used where there is a supply and exhaust or simply supply ventilation system. Apartment buildings are usually equipped only with exhaust ventilation, carried out by traction. In such cases, they are usually limited to a simple vent grill. While the ventilation is carried out under the ceiling or taken out from the floor.

Diffusers and ventilation grilles: types and classification

First of all, the regulated and unregulated variety of diffusers is distinguished. Their main purpose is to change the direction of movement of the air stream. In addition, diffusers can be supply and exhaust. The first variety is aimed at a uniform distribution of air masses indoors, and the second - at the removal of air masses outside.

Depending on the shape, the following types of diffuser gratings can be distinguished:

  • round;
  • square;
  • rectangular.

As the material can be applied:

  • plastic;
  • aluminum;
  • steel.

Each species has its own advantages. Metal grilles are more durable and durable, often they also have a beautiful design. But plastic ones do not rust, are lighter in weight and more diverse in size and color schemes.

Diffusers can also differ in different directions of air supply, they are varied in color and size, can be simple or decorative. Some of them are moisture resistant, and are designed for use in high humidity conditions.

  • The swirl diffuser can be either round or square. If it is used for the reverse side of the supply ventilation, it is additionally equipped with a ring and an impeller. If the latter is not in the diffuser, then the installation is carried out by means of screws. Fasteners are made either through brackets or through flange holes. Right in the center is a profiled plate. In an adjustable model variation, there are elements that allow you to change the volume and direction of the air masses. In large rooms with a large volume of air, an anemostat can be used to create the most comfortable atmosphere.
  • The slit ventilation diffuser, which regulates the air supply angle, has such important advantages as compactness and conciseness. The hole itself is often even imperceptible. The ceiling diffuser is round, square and rectangular. The main advantage of such devices is that they can be easily positioned behind a decorative ceiling and thereby mask it. The devices are suitable for rooms where ceilings are from 2.6 to 4 meters in height.
  • There are decorative diffusers that can be made of plastic, steel or aluminum. Their life and price are determined primarily by the quality of the material.Such intricate models will decorate any room. It is possible to place several elements using the serial connection method and the supplied hoses. Sealing is done on the end elements using mechanical seals.

In terms of operation, the round diffuser has no differences with the square. On top of the static pressure chamber, only a grill is visualized, which plays the role of a zone of accumulation of dust and small debris, and is important for ensuring exhaust ventilation. Features and installation methods of diffusers are different depending on the layout of the room and the nuances of the ceiling structure. Installation can be easily done with your own hands and thereby save on installation specialists.

Diffuser mounting

The installation of an element depends on its shape and type of ceiling. Square and round elements can be mounted in a suspended ceiling or drywall during the construction of the structure. The device can be installed on the ceiling of any material.

Installation sequence:

  1. Markings are made for fasteners.
  2. The mounting points of the frame and ceiling are marked.
  3. The structural dimensions are marked.
  4. In the wall, an abasement is made with a small gap, using a circle on concrete and a grinder.
  5. The housing is inserted, the required holes for mounting are drilled.
  6. The joints are treated with sealant (to avoid air leakage).
  7. Using bolts or screws, the element is attached to the intended plane.

The round ceiling diffuser can be installed anywhere on the ceiling, as it is not so noticeable. A square nozzle diffuser with standard dimensions is used for cassette ceilings, replacing one of the tiles. The main thing is to properly incorporate ventilation grills into the ceiling structure to facilitate maintenance. A square ceiling diffuser is most often mounted in the design of cassette ceilings instead of decorative tiles. This allows you to easily maintain the ventilation system.
