Do-it-yourself air dryer: adsorption, household

The increased level of humidity in the apartment and the house has a negative effect on human health and on the building itself, slowly undermining its walls.

In a house with a lot of fumes there is no feeling of comfort, which is typical in a house with a good microclimate. This is exactly what homes should have a dehumidifier for.

Models of such factory-made household equipment are not cheap, so you should make a dehumidifier yourself, which will be much cheaper.

Varieties of dehumidifiers

Household Dehumidifiers
Household Dehumidifiers

All modern models of household dehumidifiers of the air mixture are divided into several types depending on the process on which their work is based. The most common are three types.

Refrigerated or refrigerated dehumidifiers are the most popular type of equipment. The principle of their operation is based on moisture condensation, which is carried out by cooling compressed air in a heat exchanger. For this, a special refrigerant is used - most often freon. Moisture released from compressed air is automatically removed by a steam trap.

Adsorption type dehumidifiers. Typically, such devices are used in cases where it is necessary to quickly reduce the moisture content in compressed or ordinary air. The principle of operation of household and industrial equipment of this type is based on the use of a certain substance - an adsorber, characterized by increased absorbency.

Membrane dehumidifiers are designed to remove moisture from a small volume of compressed air. The principle of operation of membrane devices, as the name implies, is to remove water molecules during the passage of compressed air through the membrane. Among the advantages are the absence of the use of electrical energy, compactness, steam traps are not required. The disadvantage is up to 20% loss of compressed air.

The simplest type of homemade home appliance to remove excess moisture from the air is an adsorption device. To independently assemble such a device for your apartment, you need to do the following:

  1. Prepare plastic bottles with a capacity of 2 liters - 2 pieces.
  2. At the bottom of one of them, many small holes are made. This can be done with the help of a very hot needle.
  3. A bottle with holes is cut into two parts.
  4. Small holes are made in the cork of the same bottle.
  5. In the part with holes, the second half is inserted with the neck down.
  6. An adsorber is poured into the resulting device.

Ideally, selicogel should be used as such a substance - a material that has remarkable adsorbing properties that are fully restored as a result of ordinary drying in the oven of this substance.

  1. The bottom is cut off from the remaining bottle, a computer fan is installed at a distance of 10 cm from the bottom edge, providing air supply downward of the fixture;
  2. The second bottle is put on a container with selicogel, carefully wrapping the bottle joints at the junction with ordinary scotch tape;
  3. To ensure the flow of air into the structure, the cork is removed from the second bottle.

As a result of these simple steps, you will get a household adsorption device that effectively removes moisture from the air mixture in the house, while working almost silently. A fan powered by a computer’s USB connector or by normal charging will facilitate the passage of air flow through the selicogel.After that, the drained air will go out through the holes made in the bottom of the bottle.

Home-made condensing device

A more sophisticated design and execution of a dehumidifier is done at home, using an unnecessary refrigerator. To make such a device of condensation type, you will need to perform the following steps:

  1. Doors are removed from the device compartments. To do this, just disassemble their loops.
  2. According to the size of the removed doors, a plate with a thickness of at least 3 mm from plexiglass is measured and cut out.
  3. A hole for installing a fan is cut out from the lower edge of the plate at a distance of about 40 cm. The dimensions of this opening must match the moving parts of the fan used.
  4. A fan is inserted into the finished hole, reliably fixing its grill with self-tapping screws or other fasteners.
  5. It is important to ensure that this device blows air into the refrigerator, thus performing the functions of a pressure unit.
  6. In the upper half of the glass, many holes are drilled, the area together of which is about the same as the opening for the cooler.
  7. The standard condensate discharge system of the device is amenable to improvement - the external pipe is connected to the storage tank.
  8. Instead of the door, a plexiglass plate is installed, using self-tapping screws for this. To achieve sealing of joints, they are treated with silicone.

This completes the process of manufacturing a home-made condensing air dryer for a house or apartment. By launching the installed fan and refrigerator, soon the humidity in the room will decrease by about 10%. In the case of continuous operation of such a device, along with the humidity level, the temperature in the house will also decrease.

Of course, in the summer this is convenient, since along with the dehumidification of the air, its cooling will also take place. But in winter, such a device will create certain inconveniences.

To eliminate such a drawback, a heater must be installed in front of the dryer so that the air flow coming out of the device enters the heater. As a result of this, a self-made dehumidifier will perform only one function - to remove moisture from the composition of the air mixture.

Using a self-made adsorption or condensation device for removing water particles from the air at home, it should be remembered that not only too humid air, but also very dry is harmful. Therefore, in order to accurately decide whether to use such a device, it is also important to have a hygrometer.

So, when reaching a moisture content of 80% or more, the device must be turned on. If this indicator has not reached such a level, it is not recommended to use a dehumidifier.
