Ways to insulate the dressing room yourself

The bathhouse has two rooms - a steam room and a dressing room. Warming the dressing room is an important task that you can entrust to specialists or do it yourself. The thermal insulation of this room is as important as the place for washing. This will improve the functioning of the entire structure, eliminate the risk of cold air entering the steam room and allow you to keep heat in the bath for a long time. Also, the dressing room often serves as a locker room, so a draft and cold in it are unacceptable. There are different types of insulation that you need to choose according to performance indicators, resistance to temperature and moisture, and other important criteria.

Choice of insulation

Warming of the dressing room and steam room should be carried out with a material resistant to moisture and high temperatures

When creating thermal insulation in the dressing room, you need to carefully select the material for insulation. Thanks to a high-quality insulator, a suitable temperature will be maintained in the room at any time of the year. Select a heat insulator according to the following characteristics:

  • Moisture resistant. The bathhouse is a room with a high level of humidity, therefore, the insulation must not lose its properties under the influence of water.
  • Fire safety. High temperatures and the presence of an open flame also set their own criteria for choice. The insulation must have a large temperature range and be stable in combustion.
  • Environmental friendliness. Under the influence of high temperatures, different materials can release toxic substances. The insulation in the dressing room should be completely natural and not emit harmful components into the environment.

In most cases, craftsmen prefer foil polyethylene. He is able to equalize temperature differences. It is important to remember that the walls, floor and ceiling have different thicknesses and are made of various materials, therefore, heaters for each type are selected. The general algorithm for warming the dressing room from the inside with your own hands does not depend on the type of material.

Thermal insulation can be done at the construction stage or at the finish. If the bathhouse is built from scratch, you can also make the insulation of the foundation.

Insulation for walls

Expanded polystyrene is resistant, does not give in to decay, does not pass moisture

Usually baths are made of wood. It is environmentally friendly, it is easy to breathe in such a room. Less commonly, buildings are made of bricks, foam blocks or cinder blocks. The latter material already has good thermal insulation properties due to the porosity of the block structure, but in winter the walls freeze. Brick buildings are practically not made.

As insulation for the wall are:

  • mineral wool;
  • fiberglass;
  • Styrofoam.

From above it is recommended to make a layer of expanded polystyrene. It is characterized by high strength, does not give in to compression, serves for a long time and does not decay.

A timber frame is mounted on the walls. Each part is placed at a certain distance, which depends on the material of the insulation. A heat insulator and a layer of foamed polystyrene foam are placed between the resulting strips. The top finishing layer is performed on top.

Floor insulation

Expanded clay - a natural material, can be used in bulk or pour concrete

Since the dressing room is used for changing clothes, people often stand on the floor with bare feet. To protect health and ensure comfort, warming is done. For concrete surfaces, you can make a wooden coating, but it is better to perform a complete thermal insulation.

It is necessary to choose a material that passes air well. Otherwise, condensation will accumulate, which can lead to the formation of harmful microorganisms.Expanded polystyrene, polystyrene foam, polystyrene foam, expanded perlite can act as a heater. Polyfoam and polystyrene are laid on the rough floor. Perlite must be mixed with cement mortar. Also for insulation can be used glass wool, expanded clay, gravel, boiler slag.

If the floor is insulated in the dressing room of a wooden bath, it is necessary to make a layer of waterproofing. The most popular type is roofing material. On top of it insulation is laid, and then again a layer of roofing material. Finishing is made of wood. It is preliminary important to work out the wood with special compounds against the formation of fungus and mold. Glass wool and stone wool, polystyrene foam, expanded polystyrene act as insulation of a wooden floor.

The entire bath can be heated. There are different options:

  • Warm water floor. Lay on a concrete foundation. This is a safe and effective method of heating, but you need to consider that you have to install a boiler.
  • Electric floor. With this method, it is important to carefully make waterproofing to ensure safe operation. Cable and film construction can be installed. In the first case, energy consumption increases, but the reliability of the system is higher. Films are harmless and have high strength. The cost of film construction is higher than cable.

It is not necessary to install a special underfloor heating system in the bathhouse. It is enough to perform good thermal insulation so that a person is comfortable standing on the surface.

Warming algorithm

When using mineral wool, it is covered with a layer of foil insulation

Before starting work, all materials and tools should be prepared. The wizard will need:

  • timber rail;
  • foil;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • electrical tape and aluminum tape;
  • roll paper;
  • insulation;
  • knife;
  • screwdriver;
  • building level.

It is important to follow the sequence - first they insulate the ceiling, and finish with the floor. All work begins with initial surface preparation. It must be cleaned of dust, mold and dirt, all holes are sealed with foam. Broken parts should be replaced with new ones.

Installation of insulation on the ceiling

The insulation on the ceiling is laid in two layers to eliminate drafts

Step-by-step algorithm for the correct insulation of the ceiling:

  1. Covering the ceiling with roll paper overlap.
  2. Fastening bars on top of paper. The distance between them depends on the size of the insulation.
  3. Covering the frame surface with foil. It is necessary to reflect heat inside the room. Joints are sealed with aluminum tape.
  4. Leak test. It is necessary to see that all joints are securely sealed and there are no gaps.
  5. Laying the insulator in the formed cells between the bars.
  6. Lining the front part.

The insulation is recommended to be laid in two layers with a slight offset. This will hide the joints and eliminate the possibility of a draft.

Installation of insulation on the wall

When warming the walls of the dressing room, it is important not to close the ventilation holes

Wall insulation works are similar to ceiling insulation. But in the process, it’s important not to forget about the ventilation inlets.

Layout Sequence:

  1. Fixing rails on the surface. They should be in the form of narrow strips so that the temperature difference does not change their shape. The panels must be treated with a special tool for baths.
  2. Laying foil. You can fasten using a construction stapler.
  3. Laying thermal insulation.
  4. Clapboard decoration.

When laying, it is important to leave a gap between the heat insulator and the lining. Usually enough 2 cm for adequate ventilation. The finish is packed horizontally. This reduces heat loss.

Installation of insulation on the floor

Before insulating the walls, it is necessary to close the cracks in the front doors

The last step in warming the dressing room is laying insulation on the floor.A large amount of heat goes through it, especially in the structure on piles, so it is important to make high-quality thermal insulation. Most often, expanded clay is used as the material, which prevents the formation of fungus and condensate. It is also environmentally friendly and weighs a little.

In the case of laying wooden floors, the material is placed between the logs. When pouring concrete floors, expanded clay is placed between each layer.

Floor insulation in the dressing room is carried out according to the following algorithm:

  1. Fill the initial layer. Waiting for it to dry.
  2. After complete solidification, a 10 cm thick expanded clay layer is laid.
  3. Expanded clay is sprinkled between concrete layers.
  4. Pouring a layer of concrete on a reinforced grate.
  5. Performing a cement-sand screed.

It is also important to insulate doors with window openings. They are usually treated with a special silicone sealant. The outer door is insulated with natural material.
