DIY car wheel ovens

Buying a portable (portable) stove for a bathhouse or a summer residence requires considerable financial investments. At the same time, the task of such heating devices is not so great as to spend money on a factory-made product. It is much simpler and cheaper to make an oven from disks on your own. Old car rims can be purchased at metal prices at an affordable price. For work, skills in working with a welding machine and grinder are welcome.

What is a good car rim stove

The main advantages of the design are low cost and durability

The stove from automobile rims is advantageous in that all the necessary materials are easy to find and they are inexpensive. An additional advantage is that automobile rims are made of steel alloys of large thickness, they are not subject to corrosion and deformation under the influence of high temperatures.

A rim stove is capable of operating on any solid fuel, even coal. Thick metal effectively accumulates heat, despite the fact that inertia steel is inferior to cast iron.

Car wheels are characterized by a special design - the end part with holes. This can be advantageously used to organize a burner with a grate.

The main advantages of disk furnaces:

  • universality of fuel use;
  • low cost of manufacturing materials;
  • ease of manufacture and installation;
  • high reliability and durability;
  • long operational period;
  • advantageous configuration of a single element.

Before proceeding to manufacture, it is important to familiarize yourself with the stages of production and the preparation of working equipment.

Installation materials and tools

A furnace with a diameter of 0.5 m from KAMAZ disks

To make a stove for a bath from disks, you need to prepare the following set of tools:

  • 4-6 steel channels;
  • gas cutter or grinder with circles for metal;
  • electrodes and welding machine;
  • protective devices: gaiters, glasses;
  • door hangers;
  • 8 mm thick iron sheet;
  • 2 cuts with a diameter of 160 mm, a thickness of 5 mm, a pipe length of 50 cm.

To build a building, you will need 4 disks designed for a truck, for example, KAMAZ. The diameter of such a stove will be 0.5 m with a wall thickness of 1 cm.

Fire safety rules for the arrangement of a furnace from rims

In the room, a disc oven is surrounded by refractory bricks for safety

If a person has decided to make a stove on his own, he must familiarize himself with the code of fire safety rules. In the future, this will prevent accidents.

The stove from the disks during operation is heated by infrared heat. Therefore, you need to take care of shielding, otherwise the infrared flux will not be converted into heat, the efficiency of such heating will be small. To do this, the enclosure is surrounded by a steel casing, which is mounted so that the furnace body is at a distance of 10 cm from the floor and casing.

When operating homemade heating equipment, it is important to observe the following safety rules:

  • On the floor you need to lay a steel sheet or reinforced concrete slab. This is done so that the coating is larger than the diameter of the structure. Thanks to this simple procedure, it will be possible to prevent the ingress of coals on the floor, which can cause a fire.
  • The chimney and metal furnace must not come into contact with flammable materials. For safety, it is additionally recommended to use insulating gaskets.
  • It is strongly recommended that you do not use liquid heaters during kindling, as this can cause a fire to escape from the firebox opening.
  • At the stage of manufacturing heating equipment, it is important to ensure that the furnace part of the structure goes to the dressing room.

The following rule is not mandatory, but it provides additional safety when using the stove: the organization of wood suspensions.

DIY installation steps

The street option is easier to do due to the lack of a chimney

With the help of a grinder, you need to cut the core of the car wheels. At the top you can leave it.

The next stage is the welding of furnace elements. For welding, you will need 5 mm electrodes.

The lower disk is securely welded to the iron sheet, the dimensions of which must exceed the size of the disk. If the stove will be used only on the street, the need for this condition disappears.

If the design will be designed for space heating, a pipe is inserted into one of the openings on the upper disk, the rest of the space is hermetically sealed with a sheet of iron. Further, all disks need to be welded together so that there are no gaps or crevices between them, otherwise fire and smoke can penetrate the room.

Next, we begin to make holes for the furnace, but you need to do this at such a distance that there is room for a blower. Mostly it is made in the second lower disk, and for the ashman in the first. The sawed-off piece of metal does not need to be thrown away, it will be needed for the door.

Similarly, a hole for the blower is made. For good traction, it is enough to observe dimensions of approximately 30 by 15 cm.

For the grate, you need to find a suitable grid size. If this could not be found, you can use a sheet of metal in which holes will be pre-made.

In conclusion, be sure to install the door. To do this, first weld the loop on which it will hold. Next, the door is welded directly to the hinges. To make it convenient to open, it is recommended to equip the door with a handle. You can use for this purpose any curly handle, bolt or drill bit for metal.

Home-made stoves are an effective analogue of production heating equipment. However, improper installation or operation may not be safe.
