Ventilated façade air conditioner

Ventilated facades gradually conquer the market. Providing a wonderful appearance and having low thermal conductivity, they create a lot of problems for those who want to install air conditioning on the facade of the house.

Difficulties installing air conditioners on a ventilated facade

Ventilated façade air conditionerThe installation of air conditioners on the facade of the building is prevented by the following factors:

  • Margin of safety. According to the surface requirements for mounting the outdoor units of the air conditioner on the facade, the surface must withstand at least 2.5 block masses. The ventilated facade is a multilayer structure of insulation and cladding (metal sheet, fiber cement, porcelain stoneware). He is in no way able to withstand the required load. Another “aggravating” moment: vibration of the outer layer can increase noise and transmit hum to the wall;
  • Compressor ventilation. For air to flow between the inside of the unit and the wall, 20 centimeters or more should remain. Otherwise, the compressor will overheat and may burn out.

Installing an air conditioner on a ventilated facade

To install the air conditioner on the ventilated facade, a part of the cladding (several plates) is temporarily dismantled. Plates are held by clamps, so removing them is not at all difficult. Special elongated brackets are used, which are attached directly to the wall of the building with the help of powerful dowels. Fastenings to rather reliable depth are drilled.

The cold path and the drain pipe fit in a ventilated niche. Here they are absolutely invisible. Thus, only the air conditioning unit on the facade, which can be covered with a decorative grille painted in the color of the wall, will be visible from the outside. On the removed plates, holes for the brackets are cut. After that, the facade cladding is restored, and the outdoor air conditioning unit itself is attached to the brackets.

Installation of an air conditioner on a ventilated facade requires more time than conventional installation.

What else do you need to know?

Sometimes, after dismantling part of the ventilated facade, it turns out that the main wall is also not strong enough to install an air conditioner.

Installation of an air conditioner on the facade of a building is not possible without the involvement of an aerial platform or industrial climber. Therefore, the cost of installing an air conditioner on the facade of the house is much more expensive. The difference can be from 50 to 100%. But if the only alternative is to install the air conditioner on the roof, then when fixing the air conditioner on the ventilated facade, you can save money by shortening the cold track. In addition, the power of the equipment is not lost.
