How to understand that it’s time to clean the cesspool

Autonomous sewerage in a suburban area is a collector, plumbing points in the house and the main sink receiver. Often his role is played by a banal cesspool. She takes on the entire amount of sewage, periodically filling. Experienced craftsmen got the hang of cleaning the toilet in the country with a cesspool without pumping. Thus, they save a lot of family budget.

The need for periodic cleaning of cesspools

It’s time to clean the cesspool if it is more than 2/3 full

The main difference between a standard pit and a septic tank is the absence of a filter bottom in it. This means that effluents are accumulated and stored in the tank unchanged. At the same time, it is not so much the amount of sewage that threatens to overflow beyond the pit, but its composition. Sewage is a mixture of ammonia, methane and hydrogen sulfide. This combination is a serious threat to human health and life. Effluents can enter the body in the form of vapors and seep in liquid form into the soil. From there, they feed groundwater, vegetables, etc. As a result, complex poisoning of the body occurs.

In addition to the dangerous effects of sewage, a fetid odor is worth noting. It delivers a fair amount of discomfort, is absorbed into the hair, clothes, household items.

How to understand that it’s time to clean the cesspool

The following signs indicate that it is time to clean the septic tank and cesspool with folk remedies:

  • slow outflow of water into the sink, bathtub, toilet bowl drain;
  • characteristic gurgling sounds in the sewers;
  • the appearance of a specific smell in the house and on the site.

You can confirm your fears by looking under the lid of the cesspool. If it is more than 2/3 full, it is time to empty the tank.

Effective Cleaning Methods

When self-cleaning, you need to wear a respirator on your face so as not to get poisoned by fumes

You can get rid of drains in the receiver tank in one of the most popular ways:

  • mechanical cleaning;
  • the use of a fecal pump or sludge pump (sewer);
  • the use of bacterial preparations;
  • chemical treatment of sewage.

Each of the methods has its advantages and disadvantages.

Mechanical cleaning

It implies a fence of sewage from a pit with a bucket. In the future, the effluents must be loaded into a separate tank and taken out for disposal. The advantage of this method is cost savings on professional equipment. The minuses include:

  • Labor input. One cannot cope with the task alone. Have to call a neighbor or friend.
  • Negative health effects of wastewater. Sometimes fumes of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide lead to loss of consciousness.
  • The need to purchase workwear.

The process of manual (mechanical) cleaning of the receiver itself is unpleasant. This measure is taken only as a last resort, with a small filling of the pit.

Often, in order not to clean the pit, summer residents simply dig out a new one, if the perimeter of the site allows. Such a measure is resorted to when the walls of the receiver are heavily silted, when it is impossible to remove fat from its walls. But the old pit must be pumped out and filled up.

Sewage pumping

At the construction stage, it is necessary to ensure access of equipment to the septic tank

At least a fecal pump comes to the rescue. Well proven "Vodograi", "Grundfyus." They are equipped with cutting elements that grind fecal matter, litter into a homogeneous mixture. Pumping waste water allows you to empty the drain tank. But the sewage still needs to be downloaded somewhere and taken out for disposal. Therefore, the effectiveness of this method remains in question. Although pumps for these purposes are quite productive.

If an ilosos (sewage machine) is used to clean the concrete waste (liquid household waste), the owner of the receiver relieves himself of all worries about the disposal of sewage. As a rule, the operator of special equipment pumps out drains into the tank of a car and takes them to a special place. The whole process takes up to 40 minutes (for a pit with a volume of 4-6 m3).

When ordering a scavenger, you need to familiarize yourself with the permits from the driver. They give the right to this type of activity and further disposal of effluents.

The use of biological products

Bacteria are one of the effective ways to clean the sewer. Under certain conditions (temperatures above +7, the presence of yeast and sugar for the reaction, a constant influx of water), biological products actively decompose effluents into water and organic sludge. As a result, a fetid odor does not come from the pit, it is easier to pump water out of it, and organic sludge can be used as compost.

If the pit has a drainage bottom, water will freely seep into the ground. All that remains is to regularly remove the sludge from the receiver.

It must be remembered that biological products do not work in the cold and completely neutralize their activity when chemical household waste enters the pit: detergents, powders, cleaning products, shampoos, etc. Bacteria work as actively as possible in a summer outdoor closet. It is enough to pour in the cesspool of the toilet for processing feces the right amount of funds. After 1-2 weeks, the result will be visible.

Chemicals for sewage treatment

If water with an admixture of household chemicals flows into the cesspool, it is advisable to use chemical preparations for processing dirty water. They are classified by type:

  • Nitrate oxidizing agents. They have surfactants in their composition. Due to this, they are inert to detergents in drains.
  • Bleaching powder. Actively decomposes effluents, but negatively affects the human body when its particles enter the soil. Today bleach is used extremely rarely.
  • Ammonium compounds. Chemicals of medium intensity, besides working poorly in sewage with an admixture of household chemicals.

If it is decided to use ammonium compounds, the water from the treated effluents should never be poured onto the soil. It is better to call special equipment for its pumping and further disposal. In addition, chemicals harm the metal elements of the reservoir, if any, in the pit.

How to reduce receiver service frequency

Two-chamber septic tank

To save on the services of a cesspool worker, it makes sense to improve the sewer receiver: to build a two-chamber septic tank on the site. It is also called a pit with overflow. It operates on this principle:

  • The first sealed chamber with a sealed bottom and walls accepts all sewage. This is where the sewage settles. All heavy garbage settles to the bottom, light - goes up.
  • The clarified water is poured into the second chamber with a draining bottom. Here you can actively use biological products that will purify water. In the future, the liquid will go into the soil through the drainage pillow.

As a result of such a septic tank arrangement, a larger volume of water oozes simply into the soil. Odorless organic sludge settles to the bottom. It remains only to clean it at least once a year in a special trench.

Three-chamber septic tank has more efficiency. The level of wastewater treatment in it is close to 97%. Water can then be used for irrigation.

The cost of cleaning the cesspool

Prices for cleaning a cesspool in a private house depend on how it is processed.

  • Ilosos machine - from 1800 rubles per hour;
  • biological preparations - from 120 rubles. for 100 grams of funds;
  • chemicals - 1 000-1 500 rubles. per bottle 500 ml.

In a pit with an average volume of 4-6 m3, several packs of biological products or chemicals will be needed.
