It is impossible to equip the sewer line without pipes with a diameter of 50 mm. But for proper installation it is necessary to choose high-quality building material. To do this, you need to know the technical characteristics of 50 mm products and the rules for connecting to plumbing fixtures.

Application area

Pipes d50 are used for breeding domestic sewage and reconstruction of old pipelines in houses whose height does not exceed 10 meters.

Apply products in other industries:

  • supply and removal of water in pools and fountains;
  • transportation of beverages in food production;
  • supply of water to irrigation devices and drinking bowls for livestock and poultry.

Pipe sections of resistant materials are used to remove gases and liquids containing aggressive substances in chemical plants. Heat-resistant models are used to equip heating systems.

Products with a cross section of 50 mm are not used for external sewer highways, therefore they are not released in a characteristic red color. The standard shades of such pipes are gray or white.

Design and connection features

The outer diameter of the pipe segments always remains 50 millimeters, but the inner dimensions can vary depending on the wall thickness. The standard value is 3.5 mm for non-pressure models, 5 mm for pressure models. The latter are chosen if pumping equipment is used to pump water.

The traditional length of 50 mm products is from half a meter to 8 meters.

Models have a smooth inner surface, although they produce flexible corrugated options. They are used in parts of the system where it is difficult to establish a standard design. The accordion pipe is able to take the desired configuration, being placed in the narrowest and smallest bathroom.

The pipe segments are most often connected by a bell-shaped method, their length usually does not exceed 3 m. Products are manufactured without bells. For their articulation, shaped elements of a similar section are needed.

Using pipes of 50 mm, water is removed from the following plumbing fixtures:

  • bathtub and shower;
  • kitchen sink;
  • Bidet and washbasin.

Pipes are also used for combined drains and further internal wiring. For risers and connecting the toilet, pipe sections of a larger section, usually 110 mm, are used.

In addition to standard products, silent options are also produced. Soundproofing occurs due to the inclusion of mineral substances in the composition of the material, increasing molecular weight, and increasing wall thickness. Products are most often white, but can also be gray or with green and red stripes on a light background. When choosing, do not focus only on color. Check the marking - on good pipes always indicate the brand and the amount of decrease in extraneous sounds in decibels.

To reduce the noise level of standard products, they use a system of clamps for fastening, which distance the mains from the walls and reduce vibration. Additionally, the pipes are enclosed in foam plastic cases or sound-absorbing boxes.

50 mm pipe segments are made of various polymers, as well as of cast iron or steel - galvanized and stainless. Each material has its own advantages and disadvantages, but at home they usually mount lightweight and low-cost plastic pipelines.

Polymer Products

A plastic sewer pipe (polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, polyethylene) with a diameter of 50 mm is most often used in modern drainage networks.

Budget, and therefore the most popular option are PVC pipes. It is easy to assemble a new highway from them and reconstruct the old one. Thanks to modern fittings, it is easy to connect plastic pieces to the pipe exits from cast iron. The price for a running meter of a PVC sewer pipe with a diameter of 50 mm is from 19 rubles.

The positive characteristics of polyvinyl chloride in addition to low cost and low weight:

  • resistant to acids and alkalis, ultraviolet;
  • fairly dense (from 1.35 to 1.43 grams per cubic centimeter);
  • is a dielectric.

The disadvantages are small impact resistance and fear of high temperatures: the liquid should not be hotter than 65 degrees. PVC products do not differ in flexibility, for even small turns you need to use specialized fittings, otherwise the pipe will simply crack.

Polyethylene pipes have the smoothest inner surface, which increases throughput and reduces the risk of clogging.

Products are not afraid of low temperatures and aggressive reagents, but can be deformed under the influence of hot liquid (above 80 degrees). When used in the sewage system, the last drawback does not matter, but if it is supposed to install pipes for the heating network, cross-linked polyethylene products are needed. Their resistance to hot water is much higher.

Polypropylene pipes are resistant to abrasives, withstand temperatures up to 140 degrees. Such lines are easier to clean from blockages, because they are not afraid of chemicals, even concentrated acids. The density of polypropylene is 0.91 grams per cubic centimeter, so that pipe sections weigh very little and are easy to install.

Highways made of polyethylene and polypropylene are more durable than PVC products, they suffer less from vibration and linear expansion. However, pipes are more expensive than polyvinyl chloride models: the cost of polypropylene products starts from 50 rubles, and polyethylene - from 75 rubles per linear meter.

Internal sewer pipelines are made of galvanized steel, stainless steel and cast iron.

Steel products are durable, not afraid of cold, heat, acids or alkalis, are not subject to linear expansion, but weigh a lot. Conventional galvanized steel alloys sooner or later become rusty. Stainless steel pipelines are deprived of this drawback, but due to the high price (from 350 rubles per kg), products are rarely used for domestic sewer systems. The scope of their application is the oil, food and perfume industries.

Cast iron pipes have many advantages, of which the main ones are:

  • high strength;
  • durability (able to last up to 100 years);
  • low susceptibility to corrosion;
  • budget cost (from 15 rubles per kg).

Over time, the inner surface becomes rough, which leads to the formation of layers and frequent blockages. Installation is complicated by the large weight of the pipe sections - a meter of pig-iron pipe with a cross section of 50 mm weighs 7 kg, and a polymer product of similar dimensions is less than a kilogram. Because of this, 50 mm cast-iron pipes are practically not used for internal sewer pipelines.

Mounting Features

Pipe pieces of plastic with sockets are mounted quite simply: the sections are connected and tightly coupled to each other thanks to rubber seals. Shaped elements are used if the turn of the trunk or its branching is necessary. The risk of leaks is reduced by using plumbing sealant. They cover the edge of the part that is inserted into the socket. If the pipe segments are not equipped with sockets, they are connected using fittings. The edges of the pipes are also degreased, sanded with sandpaper and sealed.

An adhesive joint is also used for assembling PVC lines, and for products made of polypropylene and polyethylene, a thermal welding method is used. In the latter case, you will need a special tool - a soldering iron with nozzles. Formed connection is one-piece, when dismantling the pipe will have to cut.

Whatever the method of assembling the trunk from 50 mm pipes, a slope of 0.03 degrees or 3 cm per meter is required. You can do without this only if pumping equipment is installed.

When choosing 50 mm pipes, consider their technical characteristics depending on the purpose. If you purchased the material at the project stage, store pipe sections only in a horizontal position so that they do not bend.
