Technical characteristics of storm water inlets type DB

Large storm inlets made of cast iron (DB) are able to withstand increased mechanical stress. They are resistant to temperature extremes and chemical reagents, which are strewn with roads from glaciation. Due to the strength and resistance to combustion products of auto engines, they are preferred for installation on highways.

Purpose of the stormwater inlet

Storm water inlets are important nodes of storm sewers. Their purpose is to receive streams of water from the surface due to rains or melting snow. Industrial use also involves the transfer to the sewer effluent of purified liquid generated during the production process.

The advantage of the storm water inlet is that it collects water not only from gutters located on buildings, but also directly from the surface of the earth. Where such structures stand, there are no puddles.

The DB design consists of a housing and a grill covering it from above. The functions of the last element are as follows:

  • delay of large-format garbage and leaves on the surface so that they do not clog internal communications;
  • improvement of sewer drains;
  • protection of pedestrians and animals from injuries.

Large rectangular rainwater inlets are mounted in the trays of highways or parking lots where the slope is greater than or equal to 0.005 or in areas with a gentle slope. Sometimes in such places they put round storm water inlets, but they are less popular due to the complexity of the installation.

Rectangular DB gratings have a volumetric drainage area and are capable of accepting a greater amount of natural precipitation over a certain period. They are easier to mount and more closely adjacent to the edges of the storm water inlet. They can also be interconnected to form a row and create a complete drainage system.

Specifications

Large wastewater receivers are exclusively cast iron. They are made by casting from metal with a brand no less than SCh15. The use of high-strength cast iron with the addition of spherical graphite increases the allowable load on the product. Electroplated coating or treatment with special compounds increases anti-corrosion properties.

Cast-iron rectangular storm water inlets related to the DB type come in two varieties: DB1 and DB2. The designs of the first type are suitable for equipping parking lots, construction sites and industrial facilities. Devices of the second type are usually placed along highways.

The dimensions of cast-iron storm water inlets of the DB type are regulated by GOST, but may vary slightly according to the manufacturer's specifications. The most popular products with the following characteristics:

Type of storm inlet Dimensions (mm) Weight, kg) Maximum load (t) Price (in rubles)
DB1
Model 1 915x570x120 107 15
From 3500
Model 2 846x496x90 80 12,5
DB2
Model 1 975x509x120 125 25
From 5500
Model 2 990x500x120 121 12,5

Models differ not only in size, but also in maximum load due to amplification. DB-storm receivers are distinguished by the minimum width of the longitudinal support section of the housing, which is adjacent to the curb part of the route.

The main advantages of the structures include high strength, the ability to easily withstand severe loads, durability and practicality, laconic appearance. The disadvantage is severity - they are difficult to install without the use of special equipment.

Significant weight, when properly installed, prevents product movement, which contributes to the safe movement of vehicles.

On the upper flat part of the grill there is a stamped symbol for the storm inlet, year of manufacture and manufacturer's logo.Cracks are not allowed on the surface of the device. The lattice element should be tightly adjacent to the supporting part of the frame, not to swing. On the metal surface there should not be large influxes and burrs, pits. Gaps are allowed, but not more than 3 mm on one side.

Installation Rules

The scheme of installation of the storm water inlet

The body of the storm water inlet is installed on top of the well drain flush with it. It is necessary to securely fix the frame using concrete mortar, asphalt or paving slabs. The lattice element installed in the housing should be located in the same plane with the adjacent surface, to ensure the safety of people passing through it and to maintain an attractive landscape.

Rectangular devices are mounted by the flangeless part of the frame to the curb at a right angle to the axis of the streets.

If the storm water inlet is positioned incorrectly, part of the water will not drain into the device, but will flow through it, forming puddles, especially in areas with a large slope of the highway. In places of runoff of significant rainfall or when the street is more than 0.03, it is recommended to install storm water inlets with two gratings.

Debris traps require systematic cleaning. Otherwise, stench will occur, which will be released when the liquid evaporates from the receiver.

Installation technology

DB type rainwater inlets are suitable for both point and linear installations. In the first case, they are mounted near the drainage points - under the roof drainage system or at the lowest point at the intersection of artificially created slopes. Through the drainage nodes, simultaneously serving as a kind of garbage filters, flows from the surface enter the storm sewer.

The linear drainage system is an extensive network of channels located underground. Through them, surface runoff from large areas fall into stormwater inlets.

Construction installation steps:

  1. Pits of the required dimensions are being pulled out with an additional increase of several centimeters for the convenience of connecting to a common sewer system.
  2. At the bottom of the drain tank, 8–9 cm of sand cushion is poured.
  3. The structural elements are lowered into the pit and covered with plywood, and then reinforced with concrete mixture on the sides for stability.
  4. Plywood is pulled out, and the remaining grooves are filled with special sealant.

The edges of the part on the surface are covered with asphalt or paving tiles. This will provide an aesthetic appearance and additional fixation of the structure.

Criterias of choice

When selecting a structure, it is necessary to take into account various factors that ensure, with the right approach, a long operational period and reliability.

The most important of them:

  • intensity and volume of precipitation in the territory, climate conditions;
  • storm sewer area;
  • terrain.

For a personal plot of a private house of a small size, a storm inlet lighter in weight and design is suitable. However, if a significant amount of precipitation falls during the year, it is better to choose the option of cast iron. If you choose a model for the place where heavy equipment is going on or for the site of the industrial zone, the DB type storm water inlets will become the best choice.

Being distinguished by considerable throughput and durability, DB storm receivers receive and without difficulty deliver rainwater directly to sewer pipes. In addition, they reduce the cost of cleaning the sewer, which makes it possible to make the use of such elements beneficial from all sides.
