Connecting a gas column in a private house is one of the common ways to provide residents with hot water. Before starting work, you need to know what requirements are imposed on the premises and communication lines. Correct installation involves observing a number of safety nuances.
Geyser Installation Requirements
When installing a gas water heater, you need to consider where the column will be located. An unsuccessful location could result in ignition or fuel leakage.
Room
It is forbidden to install the unit in a living room, children's room or living room as safety standards. The room where the heater will stand must be adjacent to the outer wall having a window opening of a sufficient area (0.03 m2 for each cubic meter). If an ignition incident occurs, the explosive flow will break the glass and go outside. The window also helps ventilate the boiler room.
Installation of columns is allowed in the following types of rooms:
- basement and other technical rooms with an external wall and a window opening;
- a kitchen, provided that the door has a built-in ventilation grid;
- furnace room, including an annex;
- a corridor when other options are unavailable.
Do not mount the column in the bathroom or toilet. This is due to insufficient hoods, lack of windows and high humidity. Because of it, condensed liquid droplets settle in the combustion chamber, which leads to additional costs of the fuel resource for their evaporation.
The ceiling height in the room where the column is installed must be at least 2 m. If a boiler or other unit is also placed there, the minimum indicator increases to 2.5 m. The volume of the room should be more than 7.5 cubic meters.
Ventilation and chimney
The room needs to provide good ventilation. Every hour, an amount of air equal to three times the volume of the room should be removed from it. The used air is discharged through the shaft. If there is no channel in the building, the pipe is led outside separately. Fresh air masses come from neighboring rooms through the lower shutter of the door or the grille mounted in it. In the case of severe gas contamination, you need to open the window. If the column is placed in a room with a gas-fired boiler, there must be an additional supply to the combustion.
The column must be connected to the chimney channel using a steel pipe with walls no thinner than 0.5 mm. The material may be galvanized or enamelled. The use of stainless steel is allowed. Do not use aluminum corrugation in any case.
The channel must have a diameter not inferior to that of the outlet column pipe. The vertical fragment connected to the water heater should be sufficiently long (at least 0.25 m). If the wall is made of combustible material, sections located next to the pipe must be sheathed with metal sheets. The distance to the gas duct in this case should be at least 10 cm. With non-combustible wall structures, it can be reduced to 5-7 cm.
The total length of the connecting fragments should not exceed 3 m. Up to three turns at right angles can be included in the design. If the diameter of the shaft allows you to connect the boiler and heater, between the insets there should be 0.75 m of space.It is possible to connect devices in turn to the same chimney flue, provided that the values of the pipe cross-section and the size of the gap between the insets are taken into account.
Fire and technological indentation
If the wall is made of wood or other combustible material, a steel coating 1 mm thick must be strengthened between it and the column. You can use basalt cardboard. The edges of this protective layer should extend beyond the boundaries of the unit by 0.7 m from the top and 0.1 from the other sides. If the column is located in a separate non-residential premises (not in the kitchen), a 3 mm thick asbestos sheet is also suitable for laying.
The distance from the front of the heater to the cases of other appliances, furniture, wall surfaces should be at least 1 meter. For the other sides of the normalization the following:
- from below - 0.3 m;
- from above - 0.45 m;
- from the side parts - 0.15 m.
The column should be placed as far from the stove as possible to prevent subsidence on the surfaces of the fatty compounds released during cooking.
Necessary devices for connection
Before connecting the gas column, you need to prepare all the necessary parts and tools. Ball valves are required - steam for water supply and one for gas. Also, the installation scheme involves the use of connections of the "American" type. The fittings must have a diameter of ½ “. Fasteners are usually included with the heater.
The pipe for water is usually made of PVC, and for gas - from plastic. For the latter, you need to purchase special fitting parts. Need for installation of self-tapping nails, dowels, wrenches. The necessary tools are an electric drill, pipe cutters and a soldering device. If there is no filter at the inlet of unheated water, it is recommended to buy a sump.
Location selection
The main restrictions are related to fire hazard: hence the ban on the placement of units in living rooms, premises that are too cramped, and where there is insufficient ventilation. The following rules follow from this:
- the column must not be placed above the hob (including electric stoves);
- it is not allowed to hang the unit on a wall bordering the living room;
- it is impossible to install a column when bending eyeliner of large length (250 cm or more) is necessary for its inclusion, while laying a combined pipe consisting of a flexible hose and a fragment welded to gas supply steel ducts is permissible;
- placement in a balcony room with a chimney brought out does not contradict sanitary standards, but complicates the supply of pipelines.
Gas lines must not be laid in areas where chemically aggressive compounds are likely to enter. Transit pulling at a height of more than 2 m is allowed in the absence of reinforcing and demountable elements on the way. Steel tubes that pass through wall structures and floor slabs must be provided with sleeve components at the entry and exit points.
The gas supply pipe can be laid by the deaf method in the gates and open by the wall surface. In the latter case, the possibility of access to the inlet path should be considered. It can be laid in a box with removable inspection hatches, available along the entire length.
Dull sewing is considered a gross manifestation of non-compliance with building codes. In this case, the inspection during the inspection requires removal of the barrier. When plumbing, the dimensions of the groove should allow the gas pipeline to be laid, provide access and maintenance. The gates must be covered with ventilation grilles.
Mounting and wiring instructions
Before installation, the water heater is applied to the wall and the circuit is marked. American components and cranes are screwed to the fitting components. Care must be taken not to mix the pipes for water and gas. Then make the connection of water pipes. The quality of the butt joints is tested by opening the valve. In the absence of leaks, a gas pipe is connected (before this, the seal layer must be greased with solid oil). Now you can open the shutoff valve and soap the connections: if there is a leak, the corresponding area will be covered with bubbles.
Inclusion and check of functioning
Several types of procedures are performed to test the system. First you need to open the water and gas. If earlier matches were used for this purpose, then the devices that are put on the market now are activated by means of a piezo or an automation unit.
Check the connections for leaks by preparing a soap solution. He is allowed through the pipeline. With insufficient tightness, the corresponding area is covered with bubbles. To test the water supply, you need to open the Majewski tap and hot, evaluate and how the liquid is supplied.
Frequent errors when installing a gas column
In cramped houses, residents are concerned about saving space. Because of this, the speakers are installed in unsuitable rooms, such as in the bathroom. Such installation violates sanitary standards by several criteria at once (lack of space and lack of windows).
The desire to save space or mask the unit, so that it does not dissonant with the interior, is forced to hide the column in the cabinet. This is also a mistake.
